My husbands great grandfather came here with his wife and children in 1852. We are lucky enough to have a copy of the title to the farm. He was here four years and bought a farm for $1000. I often wonder how they got the money for this. Was there bank credit back then? A few years later he gave 1/2 acre to have a church built near the farm. The farm was in the family until Schaumburg turned into subdivisions. They came from a tiny farming community in Hannover. It is so small that three villages share a church even today.
