    3. I show two families, Helberg and Koelling (then Kölling) moving to Wheeling Twp, Rice County MN in the 1852-1855 period. They were among the first settlers there, ca. 6 mi E of Faribault. My records also show quite a number of Koellings that moved to Bremer County IA. Heinrich Friedrich Wilhelm Kölling (b. 22 Oct 1832 in Groß Hegesdorf) and Engel Maria Wilhelmine Knief (b. 14 Jul 1828 in nearby Apelern) were married in St. Peter's Schaumburg 22 Sep 1855. Interestingly, I show their first child, Louise Sophia Wilhelmine, born in Groß Hegesdorf 11 Jan 1853, and their second, Friedrich George, born in Maxfield Twp, Bremer County IA 25 Sep 1856. Louise married Johann Conrad Meyer, who was born 24 Sep 1843 in Groß Nenndorf. If my memory serves, weren't there Meyers in Schaumburg around 1850? Louis Helberg married a Meyer, the first such in Wheeling Twp, Rice County. I remember a Helberg family showing up on the St. Peter's Schaumburg Kirchenbücher microfilms. Louis Helberg was the sixth to settle in Wheeling Twp; he staked a claim 23 Oct 1854, but he had already built a house on the property, because Heinrich Kolling lived there from August 1854 until he completed! his own log house the next spring. Does this help? There seems to have been more than one that settled in the Bremer County area. I maintain the Founding Families File at the Waverly Library. I have more questions than answers about the Gewekes, but it does seem that the people you were inquiring about were members of the St. John Lutheran, Crane Creek, rural Tripoli, Iowa congregation. There is record of a Heinrich Geweke/Louise Sophie Niemeier wedding there in 1877. Let me know what you can determine. It will help clear up my files. > Steve Meyerhoff > > > ==== IL-COOK-SCHAUMBURG Mailing List ==== > To post: [email protected] > To Search: http://listSEARCHES.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listSEARCH.pl?list=il-cook-schaumburg > Note: YOU will need to add RG to SCHAUMBU in the Query box and Enter.... > ARCHIVES: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/il-cook-schaumburg > Unsubscribe at [email protected] or -D > If there is a system problem and you cannot get to valentine, go here....http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/help.cgi look for info about LIST2 lists. 3. what stood out for me on this was the date... 1852-1855, the time when the township was being organized and 'citified' could it be they did not want the city to catch up with them.... that they wanted the wild west? ----- Original Message ----- From: Dave To: [email protected] Sent: Sunday, February 08, 2004 4:59 PM Subject: Re: [ILckSCH] Gewecke etc - MIGRATION out of ILLinois I show two families, Helberg and Koelling (then Kölling) moving to Wheeling Twp, Rice County MN in the 1852-1855 period.
