There is a substantial creek that ran through the western side of the Kölling(Bohne) Farmland that ran sort of North South, I think cutting under Higgins. My Bohne connection told me this is where the cows would graze. Perhaps the bridge was to be over Higgins road? I would be interested to know the name of the creek I mentioned in anyone gets a handle on the old creek names! :o) Laurie

My grandfather, Fred Bohne, owned the middle 120 acres between route 72 and Schaumburg Rd with Meacham bordering on the East. In the l850's & 60's I got the impression from my Dad who was born in 1892 that the driveway ws to Old Plum Grove Rd. which would be west, Dad told me that Meacham Rd. was not put in until about 1929. The creek that flowed thru the Bohne Farm and the 47 acres to the North bordering route 72 was called "Salt Creek". If you will follow me I will take you to the spot where Salt Creek was named. If you exit the Bohne Farm on Old Plum Grove Rd. turn right, you get to the Winkelhake Farm, S.E. conner. cross 72 and pass the Schrage Farm and get to route 58, cross 58 pass the former Quindel Farm on the right and the Kublank farm further along. You will get to what is now route 62 cross 62 and follow the Old Plum Grove Rd in the woods, you will cross the "creek" and wind around to what is now Meacham Rd. There was a grist mill by the creek and story has it that a farmer going to have some wheat and corn ground had his wagon upset when his horses were spoked and salt was dumped into the creek from his wagon as he had been to Palatine to pick up supplies and salt was among them. Since then it had been called "Salt Creek" My sister, brother and I inherited the north portion of the farm, not the 120 acres, sometime in the late 1950's My brother had the creek that ran thru our land dredged about 1961, to make it drain and so he could plant a crop as it had always been used as a pasture for the dairy cattle. At the time the creek in the 120 acres was also dredged, by the Polk Bros. and Wm DeRee who at that time owned the 120 acres which my grandfather had owned at one time. The property that my sister, brother and myself owned was the 47 acres but down to 42 acres when we inherited because the road was widden and took some acres away.I am going to look thru some papers to see if I can find the exact date that we had the creek cleaned. Bob moved away from the area in 1968. Hope this helps you.
