I am scanning the results of queries surnames that i know were in our area... I am only clipping those obits where I recognize some of the relatives or there is an indication that these are Schaumburg area people.... or from around our area. I note the number of results in () so that the reader has an idea of the volume that i started with. Remember that the search produces any obit with the searched name, not just those with the name in the subject of the obit... Because of this, obits may be duplicated over time. You will notice what appears to be duplicates as well. This is because the obits were run on several days and I have not done a comparison to see if they are exactly the same. Corrections may have been made if there were errors. in the material you will notice that the heading on the obit may not be in the cluster noted in the subject. it is included because somewhere in that obit, is the referenced name. fedderke (4) groen (25) wayne king menke (92) mensching (60) mess (100) meyer (200) Moeller (200 /1966) nebel (66) fedderke (4) 1959-07-17 Chicago Tribune (IL) FEDDERKE Edition: Chicago Tribune Alma Fedderke, fond sister of one; grandmother of two. Edition: Chicago Tribune Wayne King, bandleader and self-taught saxophonist, was known to Chicagoans as the ``Waltz King`` years before anyone had ever heard of Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey or Lawrence Welk. He first entered homes across the country in 1927 with nightly broadcasts over WGN Radio, and young people from across the country, as well as from Chicago, flocked to the old Aragon ballroom to hear him play. He made his debut in Chicago the year that Babe Ruth hit his 60 homers, Tunney beat Dempsey and Lindbergh flew the Atlantic. Mr. King died Tuesday in his home in Paradise Valley, Ariz. He was 84. Although he gave nightly radio performances for eight years and appeared on television many times during the 1940s and early 1950s, he never gave up his love of a live audience. Even during the late `50s and `60s, when young people were listening to rock and roll or rhythm and blues, Mr. King took his band on the road to play old favorites like ``Stardust.`` In 1974 Mr. King`s orchestra drew 16,000 people to a Chicago dance floor. He said then that ``memory is what brings them out. In times of trouble they come to listen to music that reminds them of the days when they had no worries.`` Mr. King was born in 1901 in Savannah, Ill. For most of his childhood, he lived in Oklahoma and Texas, but he attended high school in Illinois and college in Valparaiso, Ind. He opened at the Aragon ballroom on Chicago`s North Side in 1927. In 1932 he was looking for a female singer to add to his band, and he found her in actress Dorothy Janis. But instead of hiring her, he married her. Mr. King served in the Army during World War II and rose to the rank of major. During the war he continued to polish his musical talents by playing in a military police band. He retired to Phoenix for several years during the late 1950s but came back to Chicago in 1961 to play for audiences at the Palmer House. His style, which pegged him as the ``Waltz King,`` stayed the same throughout his career --and so did his saxophone. He always played the same sax, a Buescher made in 1928. Mr. King is survived by his wife and their two children, Wayne Jr. and Penelope. Copyright 1985, Chicago Tribune.
