Blanchard William Condill of Barrington since 1936 Funeral services for Blanchard William "Buck" Condill, 89, will be held at 11 a.m. today, at Salem United Methodist Church, 115 W. Lincoln Ave., Barrington, where he will lie in state from 10 a.m. until the time of services. The Rev. Ann Spurgeon will officiate. Born Oct. 29, 1914, in Paton, Greene County, Iowa, the son of James and Carrie (nee Masear) Condill, he passed away Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004, at Governors Park Nursing Home, Barrington. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Barrington. Buck was raised on the family farm and starred in both basketball and baseball at Paton Township High School. He attended Upper Iowa University where he played baseball. B.W., as he was known to many, came to Barrington in 1936, where his first job was helping to clear 16 foot snowdrifts by hand, at the "Y" at the intersection of Barrington Road and Route 59. He also worked for Jefferson Ice Co. and John Bell and helped plant most of the ! trees at Bell Orchard, Jewel Park and the former Jewel Tea Co. property. Buck worked for his brother Jim Condill of Ahrens & Condill Heating & Air Conditioning until his retirement. He also worked as a landscaper and caretaker for many homes in Inverness and Barrington Hills for over 50 years. He loved gardening. He and his wife Fern lived on West Lake St. for over 63 years. B.W. was a 66 year member of Salem United Methodist Church where he served in many capacities, including janitor, trustee, Sunday School teacher, building committeeman, Administrations Board member and chairman of the board, but not in the choir. Buck was also very active in the planning and support of the activities and events of the Barrington Campmeeting Association. He was a fixture at Barrington High School basketball games from the 1930's to 2003. He and Fern also followed the athletic and music careers of their grandsons in downstate Arthur, Ill. He played baseball and fast pitch softball in the t! own leagues and town teams in the 1930's, 40's and 50's. During his baseball playing days, Buck was known as "Homerun Condill". He once hit a 450 foot homerun over Hough St. at the old baseball diamond where the present Volvo Car Dealer is now located. He is survived by his wife, Fern M. (nee Pederson), whom he married July 10, 1937, in Barrington; his children, Jim (Ellen) Condill of Barrington, Bruce (Mary Beth) Condill of Arthur, Ill. and Charles Condill of Waukegan; his grandchildren, James B. Jr. (Kim) Condill of Parker, Colo., Jeffrey (Katy) Condill of Spokane, Wash., Courtney Condill of Barrington, Devyn (John) Kelly of Barrington, Kit (Emily) Condill of Homer, Ill., Mac (Ginny) Condill of Arthur and Buck (Shana) Condill of Sullivan, Ill.; his great-grandchildren, Grady, Jake, Zach, Cooper, Brennan and Benjamin Condill; his brothers, James M. (Ruth) Condill of Crystal Lake and Jesten (Erma) Condill of White Water, Wis.; his sister, June Fransen of Carpentersville; and! by 36 nieces and nephews and grandnieces and nephews. Buck was preceded in death by his son, William F. "Uncle Bill" Condill; his parents, James and Carrie (nee Masear); his brothers, Art and Joe; his sisters, Florence Hilborn and Frances "Connie" Lewellen; and by his cousin, Lloyd Henne. Visitation was Tuesday, at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St. (Lake-Cook Road), Barrington. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Salem United Methodist Church, 115 W.
