Mr. Bierman, who was born in Schaumburg Township, retired in 1982 as a foreman at Elgin Paper Co. after 25 years of service. Mr. Bierman previously was a farmer in Schaumburg Township from 1940 to 1957. He was a pitcher, shortstop and outfielder for several local semi-pro baseball teams, including the former Schaumburg Robins and an Algonquin team, during the 1930s. He tried out for the Chicago White Sox in 1940. Mr. Bierman was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Elgin. "He was a very hard-working man," said his wife, Elta. "He was religious, kind. He had a family, and he thought a great deal of them." Other survivors include a daughter, Carol Bethke; two sons, Roger and Robert; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. "She had a good sense of humor, a wonderful personality and the most beautiful smile you'd ever want to see." Mrs. Biermann was a former resident of Rolling Meadows.
