IT WILL BE SCHAUMBURG! by F Nerge.... just a comment here... I have recently seen some materials that referenced this exclamation as the origination of the name for the VILLAGE.... this is not correct.. This exclamation is from the time when the Township itself was being named instead of being referred to as the township number of T41..... and so, it became commonly known as Schaumburg TOWNSHIP.. and as T41 in the legal description. with its center being SCHAUMBURG CENTRE.... just like most of the other Illinois townships, there was a center... some called it their township center...some did not... it all depended upon what was already the BIG PLACE in the township, for instance palatine township, slightly OFF center..... In Schaumburg township, there was NO BIG PLACE so, center of the township was as good as any.... most likely, there were some businesses in this area already, tho, except for the early plats, and the 1875 map, we have no real proof regarding the actual businesses.... . the village did not incorporate for some time later.... almost 100 years later!
