from the schaumburg review 01-22-04 Roselle Road to get stop light Area officials have long wished for a traffic light on Roselle Road between Golf and Higgins roads to make it easier for drivers to access the two strip malls flanking Roselle. Their wish came true in July when the Cook County Highway Department approved the traffic signal project. Last week, the Hoffman Estates Village Board unanimously gave the project the green light. The design phase of the project will cost about $68,500, and actual construction of the light and the roadway around the intersection is estimated at $300,000 to $500,000. The village has chosen Civiltech Engineering to do the design work for the project. The road construction phase of the project includes a barrier road median on Roselle between the northbound and southbound lanes. Left-turn lanes into the two strip malls will also be lengthened. Village officials say the median and right-turn only lanes along the roadway will decrease the number of traffic accidents in that area. When Roselle was widened three years ago, officials contend, it became more dangerous for drivers to safely turn left into either Golf Plaza or Hoffman Plaza. Construction is expected to begin in 2005. Once under way, it will take between four and six months to complete the project. Currently, village officials are unsure if the project can be financed by the funds generated by the Roselle Road tax increment finance district in which the intersection sits. If not, the funding will come from the village's general fund. http://www.pioneerlocal.com/cgi-bin/ppo-story/localnews/current/sc/01-22-04-208162.html
