Subject: find mailing lists HOWTOS here are only two places where you can find mailing lists... there are others... a caution - if you find that the rules of a list say that the list is a german only list, then it IS a german only list.. honor each lists rules/regulations or preferences... for rootsweb.com only lists: go to rootsweb.com scroll to mailing list... scroll to index and click be sure to always check miscellaneous category... also http://www.rootsweb.com/~jfuller/gen_mail.html but this listing includes lists that are not only rootsweb and subscribing to them may differ. always follow the rules to subscribe. ALWAYS KNOW HOW TO UnSUBSCRIBE from any list that you subscribe to. which means print out or save your welcome letter in some way..... dont embarrass yourself to the other listers that you do not know how to unsubscribe to something that YOU subscribed to! If you send an unsubscribe to the address where the message is posted, the entire list will SEE that you do not know how to unsubscribe. so - plan ahead and keep a copy of your lists welcomes... after you have subscribed to a bunch of lists, you might forget which you are subscribed to.... Rootsweb has a way to help you for rootseb.com lists only........ it is located on the rootsweb.com homepage under PASSWORD CENTRAL... go there and click... then enter in your email address and check off all the choices you have an interest in... and magically you will get an email or two in your inbox telling you what you are liked to... be sure to scroll to the bottom to SEND the rquest.... here's a vacation hint... (so your inbox does not overflow when you are gone) and so rootsweb.com does not unsubscribe you because of delivery failures to an overflowing box... go to password central. click your mailing lists... get that email.... then go right down the list and unsubscribe by clicking on each of the links.... type out UNSUBSCRIBE accurately in the subject and then COPY/PASTE It into the text send it... continue thru all the mailing lists you are on with the PASTE in the subject and text.... BUT KEEP THAT EMAIL.... then when you return from vacation, pull up that email again and gone right down the list and click the links to subscribe.... (ditto with the copy/paste) remember, if you delete that first email of lists you belong to, you will have lost your quick access to your lists of choice.... (i also clip/copy this to a word document I call LIST of LISTS!) valentine ps yahoo, msn, google. all have groups too that have "lists" of sorts.... so check their websites for their details.... ditto with cyndislist.com try also google.com with genealogy +"mailing lists"
