    3. I am scanning the results of queries surnames that i know were in our area... I am only clipping those obits where I recognize some of the relatives or there is an indication that these are Schaumburg area people.... or from around our area. I note the number of results in () so that the reader has an idea of the volume that i started with. Remember that the search produces any obit with the searched name, not just those with the name in the subject of the obit... Because of this, obits may be duplicated over time. You will notice what appears to be duplicates as well. This is because the obits were run on several days and I have not done a comparison to see if they are exactly the same. Corrections may have been made if there were errors. in the material you will notice that the heading on the obit may not be in the cluster noted in the subject. it is included because somewhere in that obit, is the referenced name. kern (200) note...when there are more than 200 results, only 200 can be browsed.... koelling (42) Kolling (19) langsdorf (4) lemke (200) link (200) but i did not scan them, there was no ADOLPH link Linneweh (16) Loeding (28) meacham (32) meineke (33) Kern (200) when there are more than 200 results, only 200 can be browsed.... 1954-02-19 Chicago Tribune (IL) M. A native of St. Louis, Mr. Langsdorf came to Chicago in 1943 to work with scientist Enrico Fermi on the Manhattan Project, which resulted in the development of the bomb that was dropped on two cities in Japan during World War II. He later regretted the use of the bomb. In 1982, at a Chicago ceremony commemorating the bombing, Mr. Langsdorf presented a replica of a nuclear bomb to area officials for the Chicago Peace Museum. "The bomb works in a chain reaction," he said at the presentation ceremony. "I believe attitudes of people are the result of chain reaction also. And I hope that chain reaction carries the message we're making here today to everyone. That bomb must never be used again." Mr. Langsdorf was a senior physicist at the Argonne National Laboratory for the bulk of his career. He left there in 1977 and became an editor of the Journal of Applied Physics Letters. Mr. Langsdorf is also responsible for several other developments. While a student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, he invented the Continuous Cloud Chamber for tracking cosmic rays. He also designed the pile oscillator, an apparatus for measuring neutron cross sections, which is in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., as well as the method for mass production of beryllium nitride for making Carbon 14, which is used to determine the age of archeological finds. Mr. Langsdorf's expertise was often in demand. In 1959, he spent a year at the British Atomic Energy Research Establishment in Harwell, England, and was a visiting professor at Tohoku University in Sendai, Japan, in 1975. Mr. Langsdorf is survived by his wife, Martyl, an artist; two daughters, Suzanne Hasha and Alexandra Shoemaker; and four grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
