Ahern of Inverness for 36 years The Funeral Mass for Kathleen J. Ahern, 70, will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, at Holy Family Parish, 2515 W. Palatine Road, Inverness. Entombment will be in St. Michael the Archangel Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today, at Smith Corcoran Funeral Home, 185 E. Northwest Highway, Palatine, and from 8:30 a.m. until the time of services Saturday, at the church. Born May 11, 1935, in Chicago, she passed away Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005. Mrs. Ahern graduated from Mundelein College and earned a Masters Degree in Library Science from Northern Illinois University. She was a librarian for 22 years for the Barrington Area Library. She was passionate about her library skills and used them after retirement to volunteer and found the Holy Family Catholic Academy Library, which was dedicated in her name on Dec. 8, 2005. She was a voracious reader, lover of the arts, avid walker and a courageous and daring sailor on Lake Michi! gan. She was the beloved wife of Walter J.; loving mother Mary Ann (Steven) Stubitz, Jim (Betsy) Ahern, Paul (Maureen) Ahern, Carol (Gary) Thelen, Ted (Katy) Ahern and Nancy (David) Gelpke; loving and dedicated grandmother of Steven, Michael and Samantha Stubitz, Jamie, Kaitlyn, Molly and Maggie Ahern, Marty, Paul, Brian and Rory Ahern, Anna, Julia and Caroline Thelen, Jack and Ally Ahern, and Hodge and Gabrielle Gelpke; dear sister of Richard (Patricia) Cronin, and the late John (the late Isabelle) Cronin, Paul (Patricia) Cronin, Ann (the late William) Corrigan and Fr. Edward Cronin O.M.I.; and fond aunt and friend of many. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Della Cronin. Mrs. Ahern is survived by her husband, Walter J.; six children, Mary Ann (Steven) Stubitz, Jim (Betsy), Paul (Maureen), Carol (Gary) Thelen, Ted (Katy) and Nancy (David) Gelpke; her grandchildren, Steven, Michael and Samantha Stubitz, Jamie, Kaitlyn, Molly and Maggie Ahern, Marty, Paul, Brian and Rory Ahern, Anna, Julia and Caroline Thelen, Jack and Ally Ahern, and Hodge and Gabrielle Gelpke; a brother, Richard (Patricia) Cronin; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Della Cronin; and her siblings, John (the late Isabelle) Cronin, Paul (Patricia) Cronin, Ann (the late William) Corrigan and the Rev.
