Otto served in the Civil War, then they married 12 Mar 1865, recorded in the St. Peter's Northfield church records. Their children were: Maria Fredericka Engelking, b 30 July 1866, d 31 July 1866 Caroline Naomi Marie Engelking, b 17 Apr 1868, d 25 Dec 1935 Heinrich Otto Engelking, b 8 Feb 1869, d ? Otto died in 1869 and his wife remarried in 1872 to Charles Danielsen and then lived in Palatine for the rest of her life, where they had several more children. Caroline is my husband's great-grandmother. I now need to read all these other e-mails to see if this Heinrich Otto Engelking shows up in one of the flurry that I unleashed yesterday on the listserve! I haven't been able to find Johann Otto Engelking's parents yet. 3. Christie, We need someone to look at the burial records at the church at Palatine?, for Johann Otto Engelking died 20 NOV 1869 to see if there is a "place" in Germany listed. You say he is buried at the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery at Palatine? Another good source is his Civil War records! It's been a while since I have done that type of research but years ago I found lots of very interesting documention for an ancestor of mine who was in an Illinois Infantry. Information we put together previously: Children of Johann Otto Engelking and Sophia Alvine Friedericke Thies. Is this correct?: 1. Engel Maria Friederike Engelking born 30 JUL 1866 died 31 JUL 1866 born at Elk Grove; married John Georg Vehe 2. Caroline Naomi Marie Engelking born 17 APR 1868 baptised 10 MAY 1868 at St. Peter Arlington Heights, sponsors Conrad Thies and Heinrich Senne. 3. Heinrich Otto Engelking born 08 FEB 1869 baptised 26 FEB 1869 at Immanuel Lutheran, Palatine, sponsors Conrad Thiess and Heinrich Engelking Sophia Alvine Friedericke Thies who married Johann Otto Engelking was born 25 DEC 1845 (St. Peter Lutheran Church, Northfield, Cook Co., IL Family Register. She was the daughter of Johann Conrad Thies born 27 AUG 1800 at Apelern #3 and his 2nd wife Hanne Friederike Charlotte Schermer born 16 FEB 1813 at Altenhagen (To America 1850 per Schaumburger Auswanderer book). His first wife was Anna Maria Elisabeth Foeler from Schachten?, Germany married 03 OCT 1830 at Apelern. Burial for immigrant Johann Conrad Thies and Hanne Schermer not found. Thies-Foeler had a child who immigrated: Carl CHARLES Conrad August Thies born 30 MAR 1841 at Apelern. His wife was Elisabeth (Unknown). They had several children in IL to 1879 but we do not know where they ended up (Iowa?). Thies-Schermer 1. Sophia Alvine Friedericke Thies born 25 DEC 1845 born Apelern married J. O. Engelking (above) 2. Sophia Caroline Dorothea Thies born 29 SEP 1848 married Hermann Heine 3. Maria Anna Thies born 27 NOV 1850 4.
