She passed away Friday, September 30, 2005, at the Lutheran Home and Services in Arlington Heights. June was a remarkable and unique person. She was known for her quick wit, her generosity, and her independence. She loved traveling, art, music, and gardening. Her lifelong love of travel began early with cross-country trips with her father, back when many of the nation's highways were still gravel. In 1934, she graduated from Classen High School in Oklahoma City, where she was in the band and orchestra. She played several instruments and toured with an all-girl band in the 30's. She married Clement C. Cernosek on December 27, 1941, and moved around the country with his job, eventually settling in Arlington Heights in 1963. Widowed at age 49, she went to work for PreFinished Metals (now Material Science) in Elk Grove.! After she retired she kept busy with family, travel, and home improvement projects. She was a fabulous cook and a supportive wife and mother. She was active in the PTA and ensured her children were exposed to the travel, art, and the music she loved. She was a giving mother and friend. She believed in being self-sufficient and was a model of courage and quiet determination until the last. She will be greatly missed. Her ashes will be buried beside her husband next May in Oklahoma City. June is survived by her children Roberta (John "Jack") Strong of Arlington Heights, Ill., Robert (Bonnie) Cernosek of Sleepy Hollow, Ill., Janet (Vincent) Grochocinski, of Mount Prospect, Ill., and Jean Cernosek of Arlington Heights; Ill., her grandchildren Chris (Susan) Cernosek of Newport Beach, Calif., Charles Cernosek, of Elgin, Ill, Paul (Laura) Grochocinski, of Cary, N.C., Jessica (Marc) Nardulli of Glenview, Ill., Samantha Strong of Minneapolis, Minn., and Travis Strong of Iowa City, ! Iowa; and her great grandchildren; Katelyn and Krysta Cernosek, Willia m and Julie Grochocinski, Peter Nardulli and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Clement and her sisters Dorothy Hamit, Myrtle Marie Barney and Alma Batty. Memorial visitation will be held, Wednesday from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road, (4 blocks south of Palatine Road) Arlington Heights.
