    3. Turrets, Tornadoes and Tombstones The Great Schaumburg Digital Scavenger Hunt The village of Schaumburg is celebrating its 50th anniversary, and the Schaumburg Township District Library is getting in on the act by combining something old and something new (nothing borrowed, nothing blue). In honor of this great event, the library invites patrons of all ages to go online for a trip back in time. Come and join the The Great Schaumburg Digital Scavenger Hunt! By using the library's website, you'll be lead through a fascinating maze of village history as you search for answers in your endeavor to win the grand prize. The scavenger hunt will run March 1 through April 30, with forms available online or within the library at the Adult and Youth Services Reference Desks, as well as in the lobby and at the branch libraries. Forms will also be available in the April/May Program Guide which will be mailed to residents of Schaumburg Township. Completed hunt forms will be accepted until the library closes on April 30. There are two ways to join the hunt. You can go to the library's website at www.stdl.org <http://www.stdl.org/> and click on "Turrets, Tornadoes and Tombstones." Read the instructions, then click on "Let the Hunt Begin." You'll be connected to both the scavenger hunt contest form and a link to the library's Local History Digital Archive. Use the archive to answer the questions. Or...you may pick up a scavenger hunt form within the library, then go to the library's website and click on the "Local History" button to access the digital archive. Adults, ages 19 and up, who answer the scavenger hunt correctly will be entered into a drawing for a grand prize basket that includes two tickets to the 2006 New Year's Eve Anniversary Ball at Schaumburg's Convention Center. Five other prize baskets will be awarded as well. Youth, ages 5-18, who answer the scavenger hunt correctly, will be entered into a drawing for a grand prize basket that includes a $50 Borders gift certificate. Five other prize baskets will be awarded as well. Here's a few tips to bring you closer to that Grand Prize basket. When searching the digital archives, you can type in a keyword or choose "browse." When searching by keyword, be sure to search both documents and photos. Clicking on the description of a photo or document will bring it up. Clicking on the text icon to the left of the photo description will bring up further information. Quite often, this is where answers can be found. When searching through a document, be sure to use the binoculars icon to narrow your results. Questions? Call the Reference Desk at (847) 923-3322. They won't give you the answers, but they can assist you with using the digital archives. Good luck, and let the hunt begin! <html> <style> h4 {color: "#006600"} b {font-size: 15px} </style> <br> <h4>Schaumburg Township District Library voted one of Chicago's "101 Best and Brightest Companies to Work For."</h4> </html>
