Werhan of Barrington Neil B. Werhan, 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2005. He was born Nov. 11, 1918, in Maddock, N.D., to Lee H. and Helga A. (nee Westby) Werhan. The family moved to the Chicago area in 1924. Neil followed in his father's footsteps, becoming a cabinet maker and carpenter. He worked in residential remodeling and new construction in the Barrington area. With his partner Roy Crumrine, he formed Custom Builders of Barrington (mid 1950s to 1960s). Later, Neil was the on-site construction representative for Mid America Engineers, Chicago. Neil married Marian Elizabeth "Betty" Roselle on May 23, 1941. He proudly served in the Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Barrington Volunteer Fire Department for over 20 years. Neil coached one of Barrington's first Little League teams, was a member of the local American Legion Post and served as President of the Evergreen Cemetery Association. Neil and Betty were actively involved ! with the United Methodist Church. He contributed his knowledge and skills to the building of the chapel of the original church on Hough Street. Neil is survived by his sister, Joan (Mrs. Donald Hollenbeck) of Lincolnshire; his two daughters, Linda Joan and Jenifer Lee; and two grandsons. Neil was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; brother, Lyle Werhan; and sisters, Lola Henderson, Norma Litwiler and Eva Amann. Burial will be private in Evergreen Cemetery in Barrington. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Diabetes Association, Northern Illinois Area Processing Center, 2323 North Mayfair Road, #502, Waunatosa, WI 53226, would be appreciated.
