Wilkening of South Elgin Services for Paul A. Wilkening, 71, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, at the Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin, with the Rev. Olin Sletto officiating. Burial will be in Bluff City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, at the funeral home. Born June 10, 1934, in Elgin, the son of Alvin and Gladys Wilkening, he passed away Thursday, Dec. 1, 2005, at Provena St. Joseph Hospital. He had been a resident of Elgin and South Elgin all his life and had been employed by Illinois Bell Telephone Company and Ameritech before retiring. He was also an Army veteran. He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and member and past president of the South Elgin Lions Club where he received the Melvin Jones Award and was named Lion of the year. He is survived by his wife, Arlene Chapman Wilkening; children, Doreen (Alex) Cabrera of Madison, Wis., Steve (Sheri) Wilkening of Elgin and Brian (Wendy) Wilkening of Elgin; grandchildren, St! ephanie, Tegan, Tyler, Brent, Lindsey, Kendra and Zachary; and sister, Margene (Allen) Jackel of Carpentersville. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials may be given to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. For information, 847-741-8800.
