    3. from a board 12 09 2005: You mentioned "Die Schaumburg" castle that overlooks the Weser river. There is also a Schloss Schaumburg an der Lahn. Does anyone know of any other castles named Schaumburg? This is of interest to me since one of the stories that has come down in fragmentary form is that my Schaumburg ancestors (who were at Grossenenglis near Fritzlar in the 1700's and 1800's) did either live in a castle or have relatives who lived in a castle. followed by: Additional research I've done since posting the message above seems to continue to link "Schaumburg" as an old German version of the current word "Schauenburg" meaning roughly "castle with a good view", or as I've started to think of it a very loosely equivalent word to the english "watchtower" (only more like "watchcastle" if that word existed). I've found these four references to castles called at one point "Schauenburg" or "Schaumburg". With no apparent connection other than the name. - Die Schaumburg in Rinteln - home castle to the early Grafschaft Schaumburg - Burgruine Schaumburg near Oberkirch, not sure if related to the Grafschaft, but doesn't appear to be - Schaumburg-an-der-Lahn, not sure if related to the Grafschaft but again, doesn't appear to be - Burgruine Schauenburg (I'm told was once "Schaumburg") near Hoof, which incidently is very near Kerstenhausen and Grossenenglis So, while I thought the origin of the surname had to be related to to the ~1100 to 1640 A.D. Grafschaft Schaumburg territory or the resulting Schaumburg-Lippe territory, it seems now that maybe this is such a common designator of castles with a good view - that there are other possible origins. Given the proximity, ours may be related to the Hoof Schauenburg. Take a look at: http://www.gemeinde-schauenburg.de/freizeit_erholung/1_ausflug_tipps/burgruine_schauenburg<http://www.gemeinde-schauenburg.de/freizeit_erholung/1_ausflug_tipps/burgruine_schauenburg>

    3. St. Johannes Cemetery Alliance SJCA eNews Monday, December 5, 2005 Some Better News from the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals: In what is probably the final report of 2005, we have news of another turn in the road with respect to the continuing battle to preserve St. Johannes Cemetery. This report is much better than the last. On the day before Thanksgiving, an appeal of Judge Coar's ruling was filed on behalf of St. John's Church. On Friday, December 2nd, the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals issued an order. The order reversed the Trial Court's decision in part, pending the completion of the appeal process in the Seventh Circuit. The upcoming appeal process will involve the filing of legal briefs by both sides, and subsequent arguments before a panel of higher court judges next year. A decision is currently expected no earlier than January (probably February, but it might be later than that). In the meantime, the partial immediate reversal of Judge Coar's prior decision creates a temporary injunction with respect to the City's efforts to acquire title to St. Johannes. You may recall that the City of Chicago has separately agreed in the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals case that they will not physically disturb the Cemetery, or prevent visitation or religious activities in any way, until that second case is decided. Combined, the two cases stop the City from acquiring, harming or preventing access to St. Johannes in any way, at least until the decisions are issued. In the meantime, we would appreciate your assistance. Please report back to the Church (SEE CONTACT INFO BELOW) any contacts that the City of Chicago, the FAA, or anyone working for them, may make or deliver to you. Although they are now prevented from making tangible physical steps to harm the Cemetery, we remain concerned that they may use other tactics to begin putting pressure on family members who do not understand their rights or the status of the legal proceedings. Also, when you are visiting St. Johannes, please let the Church know if you encounter any difficulties or note any issues of concern. Your assistance in continuing to visit and care for the resting place of our loved ones will be greatly appreciated. May God grant you and your families joy and peace this Christmas season, and in the New Year to come. Best Regards. Bob Sell. If You Are Approached By the City of Chicago, the FAA, or Anyone Working for Them ... : .. It is highly suggested that you DO NOT carry on any conversations with these parties. An innocent discussion in your eyes could be construed by them as a grant of approval for them to disinter loved ones from St. Johannes. Instead, advise the contactor that you need first to speak with your attorneys and terminate the conversation. Then, please let us know right away that someone representing the City has contacted you about St. Johannes, and provide us with as much information about the contact as possible. Please advise us through the following channels: EMAIL (preferred method) Rev. Michael Kirchhoff michael.kirchhoff@sbcglobal.net<mailto:michael.kirchhoff@sbcglobal.net> Bob Sell, Esq. sell_111@hotmail.com<mailto:sell_111@hotmail.com> TELEPHONE Rev. Michael Kirchhoff 847-877-5702 PLEASE DO NOT CALL THE CHURCH OFFICE DIRECTLY. The above contact information also applies if you experience any difficulties when visiting at St. Johannes: such as, gates being closed during normal hours (7am to 5pm); being quizzed by security as to why you are at the cemetery; having to show ID to security personnel, or anything else you may believe is hindering your visit of St. Johannes Cemetery, etc. If you have any questions in regards to what has been shared in this newsletter, please feel free to contact me at michael.kirchhoff@sbcglobal.net<mailto:michael.kirchhoff@sbcglobal.net> and I will get back with you. Peace and Blessings to Each of You in This Christmas Season, Michael Kirchhoff

    3. sch review 12 01 2005 When Weathersfield was mud Couple recall 35 years ago when four new schools opened in District 54 BY KAREN SHOFFNER STAFF WRITER Schaumburg resident Lee Cook remembers vividly the first day Aldrin Elementary School opened in 1971. He was the school's principal welcoming students, parents and a young staff to the new building March 15. "We had no asphalt, just mud. People were getting stuck. My secretary was driving in and she got stuck in the mud on Weathersfield Way. She sat there for a half an hour before some guys pushed her out," he said. Cook and his wife, Sandy Cook, were 28 and 22 years old, respectively, when Aldrin opened 35 years ago. Sandy Cook was a first-grade teacher. They weren't married to each other then. That happened many years later. They remember those early days fondly. Sandy Cook said many of the school's original staff members became lifelong friends. She taught at Aldrin for three years, took time off to raise a family and came back to Aldrin in 1994 as an assistant principal. She was also an assistant at Campanelli Elementary School in Schaumburg, where she became principal in 1995. She retired two years ago. "It was just so exciting to have our own building," said Lee Cook, who retired from Aldrin in 1999. Aldrin in Schaumburg is one of four District 54 schools celebrating their 35th anniversary this school year. Also celebrating are Armstrong in Hoffman Estates, and Collins and Dirksen schools in Schaumburg. Three of the schools are named in honor of the three astronauts -- Edwin E. "Buzz" Aldrin, Neil Armstrong and Michael Collins -- on Apollo 11, the first piloted lunar landing mission in July 1969. Armstrong was the first person ever to set foot on the moon, Aldrin the second. Jan Jetel, Collins School principal, said that if you've been in one of the "astronaut" buildings you know the other two. "They're all exactly the same design. The layout of the buildings are exactly the same," she said. Collins kicked off its 35th anniversary year with a school picnic this summer and also held a celebration Nov. 17. The celebration featured a read-a-thon and the school's Traveling Zoo. Collins and Armstrong were named Blue Ribbon Schools in 1996, said Jetel, who was an instructional coordinator for the school at that time. Dirksen was named in honor of Everett Dirksen, a Republican U.S. congressman and senator from Illinois. He was a supporter of civil rights, helping pass the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and also supporting the Open Housing Act of 1968. Dirksen Principal Janet Lueby said the school is in the process of planning events to celebrate the school's anniversary next spring. The school was dedicated Oct. 3, 1971. Mary Kay Marello, current Aldrin principal, said her school is also in the planning stages for its anniversary celebration, which will be held on March 15. She hopes they can get Aldrin himself to visit the school for the celebration. Armstrong Principal Patricia Piech said the school has no formal plans, but will highlight the fact that it's the school's 35th anniversary at an open house held at the end of the year. Lee Cook, looking back on his career in District 54, is upbeat. "It's been a great experience and the Schaumburg community is great," he said.

    2. Larry Nerge
    3. Val is correct. In January of this year I obtained a hardcopy of the church records for St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Schaumburg. I already had several indirects of indirects in my family tree. Using the church records, I selected surnames that were in my tree and built family groups by pulling together birth, confirmation, marriage and death records. Even if I couldn't find any link to what I already had, I still added these family groups to my tree. My hopes are that someone will someday give me a key bit of information that will tie things together (this has happened many times). Of the three church volumes, my tree now shows about 50% of volume 1, 80% of volume 2, and 25% of volume 3. Chances are good that if you are related to some of the first generation Schaumburg residents, you will find them in my tree. I recognize that searching the five reports on my web site may be difficult, so if you have questions, please feel free to contact me. 2. .... valentine53179
    3. I think that Larry is not only doing the NERGE family tree but a tree of those individuals who have resided in the township and surrounds... I could be wrong, but as Larry finds this and that pertaining to the township residents, the materials is assessed, analyzed and added... Some of these entries might actually just HANG out there as TOP LEVEL family relationships with SChaumburg Elk Grove palatine as the TOP level... I could be wrong... I guess what I am saying is do not assume that all the entries on Larry's charts is an indicator that they are RELATED to the NERGE family... they MIGHT be but there is no guarantee... once here in the USA, many of our contemporary residents can trace their lineage back to some of our first generation elders... it goes to show that in some areas, everyone can be shown to be related by marriage to many others in that same area... I found on a trip to the hometown of my family that I am related to about 90% of the current residents... it is a true illustration of how people as wel as money can COMPOUND!

    3. Larry, I see you have several Wille's in your family tree. My great great grandparents, Heinrich an Dora Wille, came to Chicago in May of 1872. For some reason I cannot find a connection to the Wille's listed in the Chicago area. One of their daughter's, Wilhelmina (Minnie) Wille married Fred Topel August 24, 1883 in Chicago, IL. They remained living in the Chicago, IL area. Another daughter of their's was Elisabeth Wille born April 13, 1853, who married John Carl Meyer in Chicago at the First Zion Lutheran Church on September 27, 1872. They moved to Clayton County, IA around 1874. They are my great grandparents. I have been loooking for this Wille family in Germany for a long time. The last residence they listed on the Hamburg manifest was Gross Wanzer which is in Saschen-Anhalt. I am unable to find any information on them being there. I did find on Family Search a JOHAN HRINRICH WILLE marrying a SOPHIE ELISABETH DOROTHEE BOCK before 1886(SHOULD BE 1859) in Neuendorf-, Klotze, Sachsen, Preussen. Then it says they had a child named Heinrich Gustav Wille born on August 21, 1859 in Neuendorf. So, I would think they got married before August 21, 1859. These names could possibly be my gr gr grandparents if they used the names Heinrich and Dorothee. I see on your index you have a Catharina Maria Wille who maried a BOCK. Her dates were 10/19/1753 - 8/9/1835. Do you know where the Bock she married was from? What family tree do you have the Willes listed on? Do any of my Wille family look familiar to you? Thank you so much for a reply. 3. Larry--you are amazing. Thank you so much for using your time this way, and for being willing to share it with all of us. I always find a few more entries in your data. This is the only way we will get the big picture. There was an article in todays Chicago Trib that Kane Co is buying several farms to add to their forest preserves--and I recognized several of the names. These are people willing to sell--not take overs. I am always so glad when land is being kept green. My husbands grandparents farm was on Nerge and Route 53, so I think good thoughts about you when ever I hear or read your name. Happy Holidays. Grace
