schaumburg review 12 22 05 Library buys Cook miniature for branch BY KAREN SHOFFNER STAFF WRITER A bit of Schaumburg Township history preserved in miniature will hang in a local library. The Schaumburg Township District Library bought an original miniature painting of the Wilkening farm, which was on the east side of Roselle Road just south of the Northwest Tollway. Library Board member Anita Forte-Scott said the painting by Ed Cook of Hoffman Estates will hang in the Hoffman Estates branch library. The library spent $2,500 from its Art Fund to buy the painting. Forte-Scott said getting art by local artists into the township libraries is good for the community. "I just felt it was important to have local artists' work represented instead of always going outside the state or the community," she said. She added that Cook's painting will be hung in the Hoffman Estates branch because that is the library he frequents most. "Everybody knows him there. It's like on 'Cheers.' One time I was there and when he walked in and they said, 'Ed!'" said Forte-Scott. Cook's work has painted miniatures of other historic township places, including the Bierman Farm in Hoffman Estates. The Village of Hoffman Estates has sold Christmas tree ornaments with local farm scenes painted by Cook for several years.
I will say that I have NOT visited. but if it was as it was in the past You should be able to GET an image of the cert of your ancestor... (the searching tool is only a small part of what is available to you...) and even if you think that your people did not get lands, it may have been that they did but just could not KEEP it.... so, make the attempt to see if there were BLM lands with your family names and consider those areas as possible paths of immigration.... ----- Original Message ----- From: Michael Neill<mailto:mjnrootdig@gmail.com> To: GEN-NEWBIE-L@rootsweb.com<mailto:GEN-NEWBIE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, December 24, 2005 9:01 AM Subject: [GN] BLM GLO site working The Bureau of Land Management site is now working . http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/<http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/> We've put an article about searching the site on our site: http://www.rootdig.com/adn/getwild.html<http://www.rootdig.com/adn/getwild.html> There is other information about land records, etc. here as well: http://www.rootdig.com/deed/<http://www.rootdig.com/deed/> And if you don't know what land patents are, or have questions, I'm certain someone on the list could either answer them or point you in the right direction. I would be glad to transcribe the letter when I can find the time. As far as the actual location of the family. All I am sure of is that it was Jefferson Township which includes Norwood Park according to an old map I have. However, I am not certain that they were located in Norwood Park. Apparently, there are other parts of Jefferson Township besides Norwood Park. As you suggest they could easily have been from that area. So, I have nothing to disprove that and am open to further refinements of the location of the family groups. As for the first Vette girl, it looks like Larry Nerge has more details on her. I will have to check my stuff when I get home. Apparently Wilhelm moved to Schaumburg from Jefferson Township after the first Vette girl passed on. I believe that this is how the Vette land, which they acquired in the first Federal land grants, passed into the Sporleder family. From there Great Grandfather AC Sporleder had lands where the golf course is now. Grandfather Edgar Sporleder had lands where Hoffman Estates is now. He sold that land and bought land in turn near Elkhorn, WI where my parents still reside today. So land has passed through 6 or 7 generations depending on how you look at it. Thanks Larry, It looks like you have some information that I do not. I will have to look closely when I get home to my stuff. In general, though, it looks like the outlines match. In particular I don't think I had the name of the first Vette sister to marry Wilhelm. What sources have you found for that? I never did find church records though I visited several Lutheran Churches/Cemeteries in the Norwood Park area. My family descends from Charlotte Vette. The other Sporleders buried at Schaumburg are offspring of this first Vette girl. They are listed as born in Jefferson, IL which is Jefferson Township, Cook County. It is now Norwood Park. > > Best, > > Lloyd > ==== IL-COOK-SCHAUMBURG Mailing List ==== _____________________________ To post: IL-COOK-SCHAUMBURG-L@rootsweb.com To Search: go to rootsweb.com, then to interactive search then enter in il-cook-schaumburg ARCHIVES: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/il-cook-schaumburg .
