I just had to say a word about Fritz Gaede--he was one of the nicest people in the world. I knew him from the time I was a little girl--my father was also a milkman for Rathbun Dairy. Many many years later my husband told me Fritz had been his milkman when he was a little boy. Small world we live in, and it is missing one very special man now. Grace
Johanna Heinie of Elgin Johanna Heinie, 95, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 19. Arrangements are being made by Madison Funeral Home, Elgin, (847) 741-1128. Published in the Chicago Suburban Daily Herald on 11/20/2003. below are some tidbits that I gathered from various interviews and searches....... Johanna "Hanna" Heinie was the niece of Frank Lengl of Lengl's Inn, now called Easy Street Pub. She lived in the brick home (the home of Frank Lengl Sr) at the intersection of Quindel Street and Lengl Drive until it was sold to Deerfield's several years ago. Frank Lengl was married and had children (including Young Frank) but also had 2 nieces, Frieda "Lengl"-(Fred) Springinsguth and Johanna (Hanna) Heinie (Lengl) living with him and working at the restaurant. He purchased the building and opened his Schaumburg INN in the 1920's. He was NOT the first owner of the building. After his death, it was sold and then later Hanna re-purchased the building and operated it until there was a fire in the building. For a long while, Hanna (Johanna) Heinie was at Manor Care on Plum Grove/Nerge. Hanna had an older cousin, Frieda "Lengl", who married Fred Springinsguth. Frieda was the first of the two cousins to come to USA. One of Frank's children was always called "Young Frank". It has been said that the Chicago gangsters frequented the second floor of the Easy Street Pub at Roselle and Quindel Street. As Lengl's Schaumburg Inn, it was frequented by musician Wayne King (who became a resident of Schaumburg) and others. In recent years, the building has undergone several changes including the removal of the barn to the East of the tavern. Lengl Street at one time was Nerge Street.

A gift from another lister.... a 1954 Plat map.... ! and now, the transcription.... IF YOU WANT a pretty version of the transcription... send a new email by clicking on this: [email protected] with the 1954 in the subject.... DO NOT reply to this email.... click on the eaddy above.... SCHAUMBURG TOWNSHIP LANDOWNERSHIP MAP INDEX and GENERAL NOTES ~~ for 1954 ~~ Compiled 11/2002 Valentine Care has been taken to be accurate. However, mistakes do happen and interpretations could always be different depending on the quality of the map at hand. General information: This information has been transcribed from a 1954 Farm Plat Book of Cook County published by Paul Baldwin and Son of 418 Underwood Street, P O Box 916, Rockford, Illinois. A copy of this Schaumburg Township Map, as well as the township maps for Barrington, Palatine, Wheeling, Elk Grove, Hanover are in the Historical Map Files at the Schaumburg Townwhip District Library. There are no building indicators on this map, but there are some streets, and some creeks noted. Notes for transcription: No punctuation is entered on initials. A comma follows ALL surnames. Jr and Sr is shown as part of the given name. Est refers to Estate. The researcher should investigate probate records in Cook County for more information. MRS is shown where shown on the map and is treated as part of a given name - Meyer, Mrs X . Spelling is AS SHOWN on the map. The reader should look at both sort sequences to be confident of a full and complete analysis. The researcher should also refer to the booklet of other Landownership maps that have been transcribed. One review should be by SECTION NUMBER WITHIN EACH YEAR, looking for all the variants on the name in that section over all the years in this collective. Another review should be by SURNAME as a confirmation - INCLUDING the name UNKNOWN or ? Please note, the information on the map is derived from several sources by several people over periods of time, with varying pieces of data available to them. This information may not have been available equally to each of the draftsmen/surveyors, and so the researcher cannot make the assimption that the progression of names over the years is 100% accurate. The map and transcription is not a legally binding document, but is ONLY a finding aide to HELP in further land purchase documentation. This information does not take the place of a legal land abstract. If a name DOES exist on these maps, then, likely at the time and for a period before the publication of the map, the landowner named had possession of the land. By the time the map was published, the landowner could have changed. It could be that a new landowner was not recorded on a published map for years. When INITIALS only are used, those inititals were entered followed with a ?-mark. No assumptions were made. The researcher should make note of ALL the variants on the surnames from this project. These are ALL possible spellings of your family namethat could be used in the various genealogy/civil records. Names were entered REGARDLESS of size of lands.
