    1. [ILckSCH] salt creek................ stuff
    2. .... valentine53179
    3. Salt Creek is a huge, enormous watershed .... the area in elk grove and the east side of schaumburg township that part going thru our bohne farms and wiknelhake farms into what we know as spring valley is but a bit of it... on maps it is often referred to as the west branch Salt Creek....... scout out google.com with "salt creek" +illinois or "salt creek" +illinois +western and see what the net avails to you... I am working now on a map of the creeks in the township as they cross roadways.... I will get something contemporary from the villages regarding bridges and creeks.... VIllages have this information since during their incorporation, they took that Road/Bridge responsibility away from the township.... (that is, excluding county and state roads) I will report, when done.... valentine Please note, tho part of the salt creek system, we have names given to many of the smaller creeks that feed into the salt creek.... I will report........ http://www.epa.state.il.us/news-releases/1998/1998-111.html<http://www.epa.state.il.us/news-releases/1998/1998-111.html> http://www.1track.org/salt_crk.htm#Section4<http://www.1track.org/salt_crk.htm#Section4> http://www.saltcreekwatershed.org/maps.htm<http://www.saltcreekwatershed.org/maps.htm> http://www.saltcreekwatershed.org/facts.htm<http://www.saltcreekwatershedorg/facts.htm> http://www.thetent.com/arcadia/il/ilsf_index.htm<http://www.thetent.com/arcadia/il/ilsf_index.htm> http://users.rcn.com/clonk/CCFPD/SaltCreek/<http://users.rcn.com/clonk/CCFPD/SaltCreek/> http://www.isgs.uiuc.edu/faq/gg-faqs/GGQ49.html<http://www.isgs.uiuc.edu/faq/gg-faqs/GGQ49.html>

    1. [ILckSCH] READ THIS from valentine! adobe acrobat reader FREE...this is REQUIRED to view HYPERION DOCUMENTS
    2. .... valentine53179
    3. I happened to notice while at another's computer yesterday, that I was not able to get to the DOCUMENTS on the STDL library website HYPERION. HORRORS!!!!!! This is a very important situation if you are trying to view documents and stories that are on that site for your research.... To correct that, I have listed below a FREE download which is universally accepted as a standard for viewing pdf files on many websites throughout the world. People call it ADOBE or ACROBAT or ACROBAT READER...it is all the same thing...and totally acceptable by tech gurus...and the world.... it is NOT a large application and so I do not think you will have any problems with having it remain on your computer for OTHER pdf viewing ...This might explain why some people cannot see pdf files on results from google.com or that youc computer hangs up or your computer says something like "pick an application form this list to open this document" This download will eliminate that..... Just a little more info for you...... pdf files are PORTABEL DOCUMENT FORMATS - methods of individuals making available to you a document that mirrors their original document without you having to worry about HOW they composed that document. It is just a method of presenting information and cannot harm your computer. So below is the link to click to download. You will be asked some questions in part of this loading process...just click your way thru them....and remember - first... it is a safe download, like I said, used universally....throughout the world... second, you will want to put it in your computer under programs....not in MY DOCUMENTS.....(you will get a prompt) and then you will likely see an icon for this on your desk top..... after you have loaded it, double left click on the icon and let it get planted or executed in your computer and on the desk top as a valid icon and application (computer program)....the icon might change to a color rather than a black and white kinda picture...... then try to go to www.stdl.org<http://www.stdl.org/> and click on local history... then click on hierarchy at the top... then click on documents and see what you can find there... If you have any problems, get back to me.... for if you cannot see these things, then a lot of work that many people are doing is being lost to you..... http://download.com.com/3000-2378-10000062.html<http://download.com.com/3000-2378-10000062.html>

    1. Re: [ILckSCH] BÖHNE-KÖLLING
    2. I fairly certain they came from the same area of Germany...Apelern and the smaller villages surrounding. Conrad and Charlotta Kolling were on the land from 1845 -1867ish Starting with 40 acres and obtaining more than 160. On the 1870 map it is showed owned by Bohne, we have not found the sale records yet. The Kollings moved to "town" in Arlington Heights and bought the town Grist mill from James Shirra. I have a sale document for land just south of the 160, perhaps I will find something yet! :o) The cute thing in my research is that my Bohne connection years ago knew my Great Uncle Irving Kolling, played cards with he and his wife Agnes(Grupe another family from Apelern! ;O) ) and never knew their families had shared land in Schaumburg. We have been trying to find where the Bohne family was prior to 1867 in the area. I had seen H Bohne on land in the township just west on near the border of the southwestern portion of Schaumburg township on an earlier than 1870 map. Just not the time right now to investigate this! Wonder if Karen has anything on the family back in Germany....Karensgen.com Laurie

My grandfather, Fred Bohne, owned the middle 120 acres between route 72 and Schaumburg Rd with Meacham bordering on the East. In the l850's & 60's I got the impression from my Dad who was born in 1892 that the driveway ws to Old Plum Grove Rd. which would be west, Dad told me that Meacham Rd. was not put in until about 1929. The creek that flowed thru the Bohne Farm and the 47 acres to the North bordering route 72 was called "Salt Creek". If you will follow me I will take you to the spot where Salt Creek was named. If you exit the Bohne Farm on Old Plum Grove Rd. turn right, you get to the Winkelhake Farm, S.E. conner. cross 72 and pass the Schrage Farm and get to route 58, cross 58 pass the former Quindel Farm on the right and the Kublank farm further along. You will get to what is now route 62 cross 62 and follow the Old Plum Grove Rd in the woods, you will cross the "creek" and wind around to what is now Meacham Rd. There was a grist mill by the creek and story has it that a farmer going to have some wheat and corn ground had his wagon upset when his horses were spoked and salt was dumped into the creek from his wagon as he had been to Palatine to pick up supplies and salt was among them. Since then it had been called "Salt Creek" My sister, brother and I inherited the north portion of the farm, not the 120 acres, sometime in the late 1950's My brother had the creek that ran thru our land dredged about 1961, to make it drain and so he could plant a crop as it had always been used as a pasture for the dairy cattle. At the time the creek in the 120 acres was also dredged, by the Polk Bros. and Wm DeRee who at that time owned the 120 acres which my grandfather had owned at one time. The property that my sister, brother and myself owned was the 47 acres but down to 42 acres when we inherited because the road was widden and took some acres away.I am going to look thru some papers to see if I can find the exact date that we had the creek cleaned. Bob moved away from the area in 1968. Hope this helps you. 1. Re: [ILckSCH] Sarah Creek location unknown...
    2. There is a substantial creek that ran through the western side of the Kölling(Bohne) Farmland that ran sort of North South, I think cutting under Higgins. My Bohne connection told me this is where the cows would graze. Perhaps the bridge was to be over Higgins road? I would be interested to know the name of the creek I mentioned in anyone gets a handle on the old creek names! :o) Laurie

    3. I have noticed an entry in the Schaumburg Township Supervisor's Book of Records 1851-1914 copied page 16, a reference on March 5, 1855 to N Peck to build a bridge at Sarah Creek for a cost of $22.50, ordered by P Wing (WING, I believe to be one of the commissioners of highways and perhaps the Treasurer of the Commission of Highways.) A copy of this book can be found at STDL for your reference.......in May At this writing, I do not know where Sarah Creek is POSITIVELY but i suspect near township center! perhaps at about pleasant lane...and schaumburg road.... I will be on the lookout for maps and references to creeks in the township now.... PLEASE if you have any legal descriptions or stories about creeks and their names, share them on the list...
