Thank you so much for your look-up for me. Appreciate it. They may have lived there in later years and not as early as I thought.
Hi Karen, I'm looking for Lewis (Louis) Böhne. (Ludwig as you know I'm sure is Lewis in English) Would you take a peek for me on those names with Ludwig in it? Many thanks for your time! Marsha Baney-Lowrey [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>

As I recall, the gravestones inside and outside of the church date as far back as the 13th century, so I suspect that the 1603 date may refer to the earliest available church records. That's a good question. The borders and governments in the region encompassing Westfalen, Hannover, Kingdom of Hannover, and Schaumburg-Lippe changed rather frequently in the nineteenth century. I would hazard a guess that Lippe is to Schaumburg as Cook County is to Illinois, but Hannover Reich is a whole separate state for some period of time, And Hannover Stadt is a city in the Kingdom. The present stone church was built between 1150 and 1162. This church was preceeded by a wooden church built in 785. Additions and modifications have been made after 1200. In 1992 Apelern published a 300 page bibliography of the town in memory of 1125 years of existance. My first visit to this community was 17 years ago and my most recent visit was last September. Hi to Cricket and Dave, distant cousins of mine, Hmmmm maybe 1603 is when the church records existing date back to? Guess I will ask my contact who is a parishoner to ask! Isn't it amazing how well we can date our architecture here....but have no points of reference much beyond 100-150 years as few buildings here are saved. I mentioned this to a german contact in talking about Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan and he told me about THEIR historical villages where THEY save houses(aside from those ancient villages where people still live).....TALK ABOUT OLD! Now I am curious to find out just how old that church is and just HOW FAR BACK their records go?! Laurie

Transcribed from photocopies of two handwritten pages about 8/5"x11" which are from the Schaumburg Local History Binders which are with the School Yearbooks near to the reference desk at STDL. I don't know about what type of lists. She went with another I believe years back and transcribed a large chunk of baptismal, death and marriage records. If you throw her a name your'e looking for and its in her database she is pretty quick to respond. She also does more intense research for a fee. Some of her families come from this area thus her interest. Laurie

I also have visited the church in Apelern and I was under the impression that it was built around 1200. Apelern is not in Hannover....it is in Schaumburg-Lippe.
