    1. Re: [IL-COOK-CHICAGO] The Sands shantytown
    2. There are only two Thomas Roach /wife Mary in Chicago in the 1900 Census. One in Hyde Park and one in West Town. Neither would be The Sands area. There is one Thomas /wife Maria at South Town. That might be the closest, but am not sure. In the listing, both of the Thomas Roach's also had sons named Thomas and even one a grandson, so several appear associated with Thomas / Mary. Going back to 1880, there is Roach, Thomas, 41, b. Ireland , Mary, 40, b. Ireland , Thomas, 15, b. [son of Thos] Living a 163 DeKoven St. This address IS in the Sands area, I am sure. Interesting is that next door, at 167 DeKoven is Roach, Morris, 45, b. Ireland , Bridget, 42, b. Ireland , Bridget, 12, b. IL , Mary, 17, b. IL Could be related or could not be. Just living too close to not take notice. Taking the info from 1880 [age, place of birth, etc.] it would appear that this might be the correct Thomas Roach 1900 United States Federal Census about Thomas Roach Name: Thomas Roach Home in 1900: Chicago Ward 19, Cook, Illinois Age: 65 Birth Date: Mar 1835 Birthplace: Ireland Race: White Ethnicity: American Gender: Male Immigration Year: 1865 Relationship to head-of-house: Head Father's Birthplace: Ireland Mother's Birthplace: Ireland Spouse's name: Mary Marriage Year: 1865 Marital Status: Married Years Married: 35 Residence : Chicago City, Cook, Illinois Occupation: View on Image Neighbors: View others on page Household Members: Name Age Thomas Roach 65 Mary Roach 70 Thomas Roach 32 Ellen Roach 22 Thomas Roach 2 Frank Roach 0 Kate Donnegan 50 [32 yr old Thomas' mother in law] xxxxxxxx Do you have dates of birth, names of child [or children] that could help to verify?
