Hi, I was wondering if some kind soul could try to find an obituary for me. I did an inter-library loan and looked through newspapers to find the obituary, but I could not find one at all. The circumstances of the death were in the newspaper because it was a murder and I did get those news stories. I am trying to find out the name of his wife & other family, which was not listed either in the death certificate, coroner’s inquest, or the news stories. This is what I know – Joseph Santora – died Dec. 11, 1912 in Chicago of gunshot. He was buried in Mt Carmel Cemetery on 14 or 15 Dec 1912, in the unmarked graves Section X, Block 24, Lot 53, Age at death: Not listed/34?, 37?, Clergyman: G. Garnbera, Peter Maloney funeral chapel which was at 1004 Wells (which is now gone & the other Maloney home there now says they are not the same funeral home). Alternate names could be – Joseph Santora, Joseph Santoro, Guiseppe Santora, Guiseppe Santoro, Joseph Santaro (it is spelled this way in the Chicago death index online) This is my Great-Grandfather and you would think I would know his wife’s name, but I don’t since there was a re-marriage. Any info you can find about him is greatly appreciated. The death certificate shows that he is married (but she was probably back in Italy again at the time of his murder – per news stories). This is such a brick wall & myste ry for me. Any other suggestions are welcome, too - definitely! Thanks, Michelle O’Keefe Researching – Santoro/Santora, Vasta, Matone, Calderaro, Giannoccaro
Found the following in the 1910 Census: Joseph Santora - Age 34 Rose Santora (wife) - Age 34 Living at 904 Grand Avenue Married 13 years - No Children Also living with them are a nephew and niece, Joseph (Age 10) and Sarah (Age 16) Lopcolo (spelling?) Does the Grand Avenue address match what you have on the Death Certificate? This murder does appear on the Chicago homicide website: http://homicide.northwestern.edu/database/4899/?page= If you go to the very bottom of the case info, there is a spot to click on which gives other contacts to try for more info. I have been able to get some case records on one of my relatives from the Cook County Clerks Archives departments. Hi. Can you tell me how you got the info from Mt. Carmel? I have many family members there and since I live in NC now,I was looking for a way to get into records to find info on family at Mt. Carmel. We still have grave sites there as all my family is laid to rest there. Thank you.
