The 'USB things" that can store data are also know as flash drives, jump drives, thumb drives, etc. Seagate has a neat little 3" circular pocket drive that has a 5GB capacity, for around $90 at Amazon. They also have what they call an external hard drive, that is quite small that will hold 100GB. Western Digital has a 40GB external HD that is about the size of a deck of cards. Most of them are 2.0 USB - dont know if they are backwards compatible with a 1.0 USB connection. If you are using CD's for the storage of photos, and want to be certain they will last, all you need to do is burn a new one every few years. Using up a few cd's would be cheaper than having to buy something right now, when you know they will come up with something else, newer and better in a year or so.
