    3. Maybe because we were still fighting a war over there. We went into the second world war in 1941 and some of the bodies were not returned until 1951 and later. When my husband got to the Philippines in 1945 some of the smaller islands still had Japanese soldiers on them. As our armies pushed further north they left pockets of these behind. Some of the POWs had died years before the survivors were liberated. Just my thoughts. Our government was very good about having bodies returned if the next of kin so wished. Also about getting servicemen back to the States when their time was up. I have an English cousin who served in Burma and he had to stay there almost two years because it was not a priority of the English to get their servicemen home. Grace
