My Mom's younger sister - who died in 1974, aged 42 - planned her wake - to be a 3-day party, complete with she & her husband's favorite New Orleans Dixieland brass band, a beer truck parked in the family driveway, and favorite family foods served 24/7. Aunt Ginger had already had hosted several of these types of parties, and everybody enjoyed that they could move around the house, the wrap-around porch, & the large yard, mixing & mingling with all types of people, sharing funny stories & great times. She always said that's what she wanted for her wake -- so people she loved would enjoy and relish the joy of her life & family - and not be "wailing in the shadows". - and that's what her husband & daughters did for her "last hurrah". No fears - lots of tears - but they were tears of joy. molly Molly Kennedy P O Box 5785 Springfield, IL 62705 www.mollx.com Genealogy - Confusing the dead, and annoying the living. >From: [email protected] >Reply-To: [email protected] >To: [email protected] >Subject: Re: [IL-CHICAGO] Off Topic? - Is there a Wake Before you die? >Date: Wed, 11 Jan 2006 19:58:52 +0000 > >They use to have them in Ireland the night before the person was to leave >for America because they knew they would most likely never see that person >again.
