Well, I asked on the 'other' list and got no response, so will try here. Is there any place where I can access the various Chicago City directories? Or is there a group/person who does lookups for them? I want to find my grandfather in the 1900-1930 time frame to see if I can narrow down where the family lived between the times the census was taken. Bonnie -- Bonnie J. you ASKED on the OTHER list you even THOUGHT to ask there FIRST..... tsk tsk tsk... bad bonnieGAL! bad bad bad.... .....remember to consider that the directories took time to print, so info in the 1930 directory is really 1929 info........ if I had them I would look up for you but I don't have them at hand... you will have to hope that someone else will reach over to the books on their desk and look up for you (as I am sure they will, even tho you mistakenly clicked on the wrong address in your eaddy book)...... ----- Original Message ----- From: Bonnie<mailto:[email protected]> To: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, January 26, 2006 8:30 AM Subject: [IL-CHICAGO] Chi. city directories Well, I asked on the 'other' list and got no response, so will try here. You can order Chicago City Directories through any Family History Center or I've used them at the Chicago Historical Society, Wilmette FHC (not a complete set), Arlington Heights Library (complete set). Other large research libraries in the area must have them, too? I think they run consecutively up to 1917 (with one of the later years missing) and then you'll have 1923, and 1928/29. There's a reverse directory for 1928/29 online. http://www.chsmedia.org/househistory/polk/start.pdf There are people who do lookups . . . I think there's one name on the Cook County GenWeb lookup site. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilcook/Lookups/lookupcitydir.htm And I think Molly has access to some of them? www.mollx.com Cynthia ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bonnie" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, January 26, 2006 8:30 AM Subject: [IL-CHICAGO] Chi. city directories > Well, I asked on the 'other' list and got no response, so will try here. > Is there any place where I can access the various Chicago City > directories?
