    3. Arleen -- here's my trick to the Chicago census: find the address on map quest. print it out so you can refer to it during your research. if you are not familiar with chicago, print out two maps - the up close one with street names and zoom out to get an idea on what part of the city it's in,. with that map, you can pinpoint the ward and the ed by going to www.alookatcook.com click on the big map. the city is divided into wards. you can find the part of the city and click on the ward. the ward map is divided into enumeration districts. i had one family that could have been in one of 4 wards, based on the dividing lines and the street numbering system changes. From there you can go to ancestry.com search by exact census year, eg 1920 census, illinois Cook (Chicago)<http://content.ancestry.com/Browse/list.aspx?dbid=6061&path=Illinois.Cook+(Chicago)> chicago ward ## district ## ** that gets you to the census images, where you have to go through page by page ** This system has worked for me every time ! Good Luck. 1. Thank You - Maryellen and Darlene!!

    3. Dear Cook's List, I was probably told about this site before but do not remember it. www.alookatcook.com My guess is that I use only Heritage Quest which locates my relatives without much need of this knowledge. Regardless, thanks for showing me the key. Also, I need to thank Darlene Dowhaniuk for locating true ancestors all the way back to 1838 - 168 years. Thank you Darlene for breaking down the very high wall. You used expensive tools and variations in spelling which we never thought of.
