    1. [IL-COOK-CHICAGO] Illinois death certs, April 2009 discount
    2. Molly Kennedy
    3. DISCOUNT DURING THESE ECONOMICALLY TRYING TIMES My regular fee for any IL death certificates (issued from Jan 1, 19196 through Dec 31, 1947), including Chicago/Cook Co) is $5 each. This fee has remained the same since 2006. All other prices are going up, up, up.. As of April 1st - and during the entire month of April 2009 - If more than one IL death certificate is ordered at the same time, my fee drops to $4 each = a 20% discount. I can't do much to help the overall national economy... but this, I CAN do, at least temporarily. We genealogists have to stick together! Please reply off-list, to mollx@hotmail.com thank you, molly Molly Kennedy P O Box 5785 Springfield, IL 62705 genealogical website: www.mollx.com Genealogy - Confusing the dead, and annoying the living.

    3. First time I used the directories at Footnote, it felt clumsy, but now that I have the hang of it, it feels, to me, like a great place to access them. I blogged about it, but I'm not sure I made it easy to understand there. http://chicagogenealogy.blogspot.com/2008/12/searching-chicago-city-directories-at.html Here's another explanation: 1) browse until you get to the directories 2) make sure the directory year you want to search is highlighted 3) just type in a surname, nothing else, in the BOTTOM search box 4) if your surname search doesn't yield any results, go back and type in a common name spelled in a similar way to the one you're looking for and search again (for example, you might search "Bell" when you're looking for something like "Beltzinski") 5) look at the results; scroll down until you find a page that begins with a name close to the one you want and go to it (Belginsi, Henry, p. 566 is close enough) 6) use the filmstrip at the bottom of the page (you may need to open it) to zero in on the page with "Beltzinski" (when you roll your mouse over a filmstrip pane, it will tell you the first name on the pages; you may need to navigate one way or another in the film strip to get to the page you want) I've taught this approach to a number of patrons at the FHC (I'm a volunteer there) and they seem to have good luck with it And then printing or saving an image from Footnote gives much better copies for many years than I was ever able to get printing or scanning. The other thing I like very much is that I can search for keywords on a single page and I can also search for addresses. 3. I was hoping to find a widow at the address he died at beginning the year following his death, but at quick glance last night, no obvious luck. And, unfortunately, there were a number of men with the same name in the directories, so it might take some work to figure out which one the license was for. He didn't, by chance, have a child born in Chicago? A wife's name would be on the certificate and so would his occupation. Have you checked the records at familysearch.org's record search pilot? 2. I don't know if this is helpful or not, but I did find a marriage record for a William Morley that would fit in your time period...if he married in Cook Co. Illinois rather than Canada. No way I can tell from this record if it is your William Morley or not. The marriage certificate itself might be available thru Cynthia (the person who responded to your first email on this list and an excellent researcher). I am sure she probably found this same record and will get back to you. If not, just email her again. Their ages should be on the marriage certificate which would help narrow down the possibility. MORLEY, WILLIAM to DAVIDSON, MARY JANE / dated 1887-OCT-15 / cert #00118948 in COOK CO, ILLINOIS Just curious, he died so young...if you don't mind sharing...what was the cause of death?
