    3. Hi Beth, Can you tell us in what context James Wilcox was mentioned in the Chicago Tribune. We have no resource of getting information from the newspaper. This maybe what we are looking for, but are not sure. You may contact us off list if it is easier and allowable. Thank you for your continuing searching for information, this is a great list. Then on June 2 1968, a James Wilcox age 17 was listed at that address. It was a 2 flat, frame building that by 1974 had been abandoned and was being listed for sale through HUD in a bulk sale for $7700.00. 2. Okay, let me ask a question. Do any of you know if there are [or were] City Directories for the subs after 1928 -29? I can not find Emma Rose between 1924 - 1944. In 1924 she is shown in the obit of her father [1924] as Emma Rose at Oak Glen [Lansing] and in the obit of her mother [1944] as Mrs. E. Burton of Lansing. Emma Rose Burton died 13 Sept 1961 in Hollywood, FL [no mention of Mr. Burton or her marriage]. Emma was born 27 Dec 1897 in Oak Glen, Cook Co., IL to Carl Rose and Hedwig [Solchow] Rose. I do not believe that Emma ever had any children. 3. I tried a different method but came up with nothing. I tried putting the addresses in on the "exact phrase" portion of Access Newspaper Archive, which checks, among others, Chicago newspapers for any time the address appeared in the paper. Neither address gave any results for that time period, unfortunately. I also tried News Bank's America's Obituaries and Death Notices. The only result I had was that on 9-12-1913, Thomas McConnell was living at that address when he died. The other address resulted in no results. 3. Hi, Beth, 1928-1929 Polk Criss-Cross Directory   I got this from the Look At Cook link on www.chicagoancestors.org   Maybe someone has already referenced the list for this criss-cross directory...?   Patti ________________________________ From: Beth Walsh <bw.walsh5@sbcglobal.net> To: il-cook-chicago@rootsweb.com Sent: Monday, July 13, 2009 10:31:07 PM Subject: Re: [IL-COOK-CHICAGO] Address Assistance Hi Cheryl, If I can jump in on this: I did not find any directories for these years, but there are "Haines Criss Cross Directories" available for other years. With these one can do a reverse look-up.  There was one directory (not Haines, but similar) for 1928 listed in the card catalog for Chgo History Museum. Unfortunately, the earliest edition for Chicago (city) that I could find was at Skokie Public Library - they have 1974-1986. The other libraries that have these directories for earlier years are: Chgo History Museum   1978 +Eisenhower Public Library 1985 +Chgo Public and Des Plaines Public Libraries  1986 +Newberry Library 1995 + most libraries will have at least the current year of these directories, and many of them also keep a few years prior. These directories are available for suburban locations also. Check your library card catalog and enter the title as "Haines Criss Cross Directory". Hope that at least if this doesn't help your specific request that it may help someone. I'm very sorry, though, that I can't help you on this; there are no "reverse" directories, that I know of for those years. City directories stopped in the late 1920's and were replaced by phone books. Only those who had private lines were listed, I believe; Party lines, weren't. (List, please correct me if my understanding is incorrect). If you are looking for specific surnames, you can ask for a surname look-up here; maybe a list member will volunteer for you. Otherwise, the Arlington Heights Memorial Library has phone books and will do paid look-ups.  Good Luck!
