remember that LOCAL CEMETERY could mean one of several and not really pertaining to a spcific cemetery... it could be that arrangements at a specific cem had not yet been made... after all, there really was no need for the cem to be named for mourners unti the day of the burial..... the next thought is to consider religion... and of the cems noted in the last days, consider which would have been logical.... you could too if the funeral home is not in business, ask at one of these cems which funeral home MIGHT have taken over the business and perhaps the records... there is nothing that forces a funeral home to KEEP records when they go out of business or forces them to give those records to anyone if they sell out... all depeneds on the individual who OWNS them in the first place and that is the funeral director... another thought....it used to be that cems had to file a record with the WAR GRAVES DEPARTMENT in SPRINGFIELD ...a state of illinois thingy.... (ask MOLLY about this... someone will give her url or number or she can contact you directly )that a soldier was being buried in their cem... and this department kept track of deceased vets... the information that can be available could be important to you since at the time of death often the person making the arrangements did know military information about the deceased... pllease pursue this... also, if you do contact the cem and you do find the right one, ask about monument information.. and ask too if they have someone who takes images at the cem for them... as a raogk..... some cems are being a little domineerng about photos being taken in their cem so be sure that you get the locaiton info AND a little map of the area for the person helping you... as they should NOT be forced to go into the office to find the person.. they should instead be able to ask a grounds person for help with the info you give to the helper... the second you go into the office and ask about someone who is not of your family, trouble could ensue.... you could too ask the next person going to a catholic arch diocese cem to enter in the name and see what comes of their data base...(wish it were on line and not only at the cemetery) anyway, get the info before you ask someone to traipse thru the woods looking for a stone... stones often have info that is NOT on the cem record... be sure to gain info from BOTH... To the previous poster: Yes, Harold Washington Library is at 400 S. State St. I looked in the current city yellow pages, and while I did NOT find either a United Veteran's Cab nor a Veteran's Cab company...the 1/2 page ad for American United Cab Association says, in the corner, "Chicago's Only Veteran's Cab Association". So??????? Their phone number is 773-248-7600, but, sorry, there's no address provided either in the ad, nor in the white pages. Good luck. This one sounds like a real wild goose chase, but hopefully it will work out for you! I guess I've chased leads this obscure before, too! Bonnie

In this case, the local cemetery seems to have been St. Mary's in Evergreen Park. Hi, There is a Timothy Francis McAuliffe b. 1882 who worked for the railway in the WW1 Draft Reg. also in the 1930 census he shows living as a boarder/widow. I don't think this is your Timothy as the age is off and his father's place of birth is different from the 1920. That's the closest I could find. http://www.newberry.org/genealogy/news/default.asp?id=89&action=single Finding Chicago Musician Ancestors By Grace Dumelle Originally published in the FOGCutter, Volume 8 Issue 4, Sept. 2004 Did Aunt Zelda sing and play guitar on the radio? Did Uncle Fred play trumpet in a dance band? You may be able to verify family stories through musicians union records. The Chicago Federation of Musicians donated their old files to the music department at the Harold Washington Library Center, the flagship of the Chicago Public Library. Among the several pieces to this archival collection is a list of transfer and traveling musicians (partially processed). Another is minutes of the board of directors, who elected members at each meeting. The third part, and the most interesting to genealogists, is death files 1940 to circa 2000. The death files are arranged in folders alphabetically by group of years. A persons file usually contains: A Death certificate An original membership application (including what instruments the person played, day job at the time, home address, and if he or she ever worked for an organization on the unions boycott list) A Beneficiary card, listing names, addresses, and relationship to the member Correspondence from spouse or other beneficiary regarding death benefit. Member Status Report - a computer printout of information from the unions records, including the legal name and stage name, date of election to the union, birth date, address, phone number, and Social Security number. To access these records, go to the Music Information Center on the 8th floor of the Harold Washington Library Center, 400 S. State Street, Chicago. Sorry, but I guess Heritage Quest, my only access to the Census, still does not have Illinois up yet for 1930. There are several McAuliffes, one in Maryland and the rest in Texas.
