    1. RE: [IL-CHICAGO] Request for obit lookup Matthew Ryan
    2. Patricia Hansen
    3. I don't find it in the ProQuest Chicago Tribune online. It was either a paid obituary (which they can't put online), or did not appear there. Molly Kennedy does research for obituaries for papers including the Tribune at the Abraham Presidential Library in Springfield (which has a lot of papers on microfilm). She is quite reasonable. Here is her web site: www.mollx.com Pat Hansen -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, February 23, 2006 1:27 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [IL-CHICAGO] Request for obit lookup Matthew Ryan Hello all Would someone kindly do a look up for me? I need the obituary for Matthew Ryan who died Jan 23, 1938 in Chicago. I have already tried the Chicago Tribune Archive site, but they don't have it. If anyone has any suggestions on how else I might be able to retrieve it online, I would appreciate it. 3. I would call all the Jewish cemeteries in the area starting with Waldheim asking for them to check their computer for deaths after 1945 just to be safe. They are very nice and most have the information on computer. Waldheim will even fax you a map of the location. That way you will know exactly when he died and can order his death certificate. 3. Arleen is right; try to find the obit. We are not allowed to search for ourselves. I did ask that again last week. You'll need the date of death to narrow their search, so the obit is your best hope. If the obit is not on the free chicago trib site, the main branch of CPL has newspapers on microfilm. Also, don't forget to try the death index for surrounding counties. Manteno, in Kankakee County, had a big hospital; many people from Chicago died there. 2. THOMAS MACKOWIAK
    3. Susanne at [email protected] asked if there is a way to check the burials in the Catholic Cemeteries in the Chicago area. Susanne, There is no on-line way of checking the burials in the Catholic Cemeteries of the Archdiocese of Chicago. There are computer kiosks in most of the larger Catholic Cemeteries in the Archdiocese of Chicago which can be used to find interment information on people buried in the Catholic Cemeteries of the Archdiocese of Chicago. The interment database that is available on these computer kiosks is an on going project. The interment information for all the Catholic Cemeteries is not in the database as yet. The basic information in the database is the Surname, Given Name, Cemetery of Burial, Age at Death (if known), and Interment Date (not date of death). When you click on a specific name in the database, you are taken to a second screen which gives you the location of the grave at the cemetery (Section, Block and Grave Number). You can also print out the information of the burial location along with a map of the cemetery showing the location of the sections of the cemetery. The map gives you a general idea of where the grave is located because the section is shown but the specific location of the grave is not shown. You have to ask the cemetery office staff to help you pinpoint the location of the grave. Thomas Mackowiak MACKOWIAK/SERWATKIEWICZ/WANATOWICZ/JANUSZEWSKI/LESCZYNSKI/ORLIKOWSKI/MROZ/MU NO/HARNEY

    2. Is there some way, online, to check the burials in the Catholic Cemeteries in the Chicago area? The person probably lived near Ashland & Cermak Roads, on the 1920 Census. He is supposed to have died in 1923, oral history. No idea about funeral home or cemetery or other information. Have checked the Illinois deaths for that period and have not found the person. Could corner's reports be listed in this Illinois Death Index or other index? Susanne
