    3. I just saw Mollie at the Archives last week. Sorry to hear that she is in the part of town that was hit. Anyone interested in seeing the damage, here's a website with photos: http://www.wtax.com/galleries.php?gallery_id=127 My family and I were listening to WTAX radio in our basement during the storm and noticed that we lost transmission from them. After seeing the pictures of their radio tower torn down, we now know why they were (and still are) off the air. My home is centrally located and we have no damage at all. My husband's work was without power and had roof damage to one of its buildings. Power is still out to the hardest hit parts of town and public school are still closed because their buses are trapped by power lines and poles. Some buses were totaled and many more lost windshields and windows. Several public schools were damaged. The archives and the Presidential Library were not affected, but the Library was closed yesterday, not sure why. 3. In case some of you are wondering why you haven't heard back from Molly Kennedy ([email protected]) about your searches at the Illinois State Archives or Presidential Library, I received the below from her yesterday afternoon. Bonnie --------- Tuesday, March 14, 2006 - approx 2pm Two tornadoes hit Springfield IL (where I live & research) on Sunday evening - both were F2 category tornadoes. The second one hit at 8:30pm, and tore wide swath to within 20 feet of my apartment building.... (as I was attempting to close the last open storm window... the glass in the upper storm window broke inward, but the only personal harm done by the glass shards were tiny cuts on one hand). Power lines, poles, substations, 120-ft-tall trees - - all now horizontal. I am still without electricity - and heat - (28 degrees last night, and again tonight) - and am using one of the Presidential Library's patron PC's to transmit this message... then I must return back home to continue with the cleanup efforts. I will respond to all emails as soon as power is restored - -which may not be until Wednesday or Thursday; please be patient with me? molly ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, March 15, 2006 1:00 AM Subject: IL-COOK-CHICAGO-D Digest V06 #35

    3. Also, it's from an obit from 1961 if that helps narrow down possibilites. By the way, anyone trying to get information out of Springfield, might have a bit of a delay. We were hit pretty hard by tornadoes on Sunday evening. The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library is closed today. Most state closings are probably due more to power outages than damage. The cental part of the city where the Library and archives are located did not get hit, although I heard the capitol building had some windows blown out. I will try to get there with my camera this afternoon, if it's not toooo cloudy (it's been pretty cloudy lately). Actually, if it's not raining, I could probably get in and try a flash photo. Just let me know where they are located and where the cemetery is. Thanks. Marilyn Krzus
