Was there ever an census of Civil War veterans taken il Illinois? meb

To my knowledge, Tennessee was the first state to send out a special questionaire for all civil war veterans to fill in and after this state did this, so all the other states followed doing the same; Although this isn't a census, it does pertain to this special population and the answers to each question is full of information and those answers hold information for those which have perpetually asked about Civil War veterans who participated. Perhaps within the Illinois state archives held under what they called the Civil War Veterans Questionaire something of great interest for you.
