[Hi Janice - Your message bounced to me as list administrator, so I'm redirecting it to the list. You sent it to the address for subscribing/unsubscribing. Messages to the list should be addressed to: IL-CIVIL-WAR-L@rootsweb.com. All the best, Celia] I am researching for information on John W. Curl. He was in the Civil War and was a prisoner at the Andersonville Prison Camp. The information I have so far is that he enlisted in 1863. Word has it that when he came home it was in a sheet and he was just skin and bone. I am a little confused about this because I was told he died a short time after he came home. The confusion lies in the time frame of 30 years. The war ended in 1865, if I recall and he died in 1892 in Dewitt County. He married Delcina Lane and had several children. 30 years is not a short time. Can anyone give me any information on this. Thank you and have a nice day :) Janice
Janice, I saw your message on the IL-CIVIL-WAR list. I'm not related, but I help Earliene Kaelin with the DeWitt County web site, and I've seen the name Curl many times while reading the Clinton Public newspaper. Could there have been more than one John W. Curl? Who's the widow listed below if his wife's name was Delcina? PENSIONERS IN DEWITT COUNTY -- 1883 DeWitt. Lafferty, Julia, widow Curl, John W. I found this one little blurb in the paper. If I come across others, I'll pass them along. The Clinton Public Sept. 23, 1887 J. W. Curl's son, who has been severely sick for some time, is convalescing rapidly. Judy Simpson
