    3. It would be easy if the 112th had been transcribed as many of the other regiments have been. The full transcription gives quite a bit of information. Go the the Illinois Civil War Project and then to the 112th, and click on Unassigned Recruits. You can see the type of information that would become available when the transcription is done. Unfortunately, all the transcriptions are done by volunteers, and it takes time. I hate to send you to a "pay per view" site right away. Why don't you go to this page: http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/archives/research_series/rseri es3.html Then scroll down to Civil War. Take special notice of the last paragraph: "Mail, Telephone And Internet Requests" You can call or mail the Illinois State Archives and get some very good information very cheaply. Call them first and get their advice on how to do it. I got my first records of my g.g.grandfather this way. I found that he had brown eyes, brown hair, a dark complexion, and was 5' 10" tall. It showed his muster in/ discharge dates also. From there, I got copies of his complete records from the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). I got his military record and his pension record - complete with copies of handwritten letters applying for a veteran's pension. I would wait until the records arrive from Illinois Archives before sending for the federal records. The price on the federal records has gone up dramatically this last year. You can get to NARA's site at: http://www.nara.gov/genealogy/civilwar.html This will keep you busy for a day or two. Good luck again. By the way, I was born in SAINT Louis - but I suspect canonization is a long ways off. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Poohcrew76@cs.com> To: <IL-CIVIL-WAR-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, April 09, 2001 7:34 PM Subject: Re: [IL-CIVIL-WAR] 112th Illinois Volunteer Regiment > you sir are a saint thank you.
