I have been looking for more info on 13th calvary, company E Illinois. The battles listed by the Adjutant General seems to only begin in the year 1863, yet i know they were in battle elsewhere prior to this as they mustered late in 1861. I have an ancestor that was discharged in 1862 due to illness and was brought back to his home in Olney Illinois and died a few weeks later. There are handed down stories as to where he saw action but at those places, there is no record of them.. I have heard they split up the different units and its possible he went one way while some of the other companies went another, then rejoined.. Is it possible to get a more detailed look at what this unit was involved in.. thank you doug

Doug: Go to this site: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilcivilw/reg_html/cav_013.htm There is a history of both the original unit and the consolidated unit. Both the adjutant general's report and Dyers' Compendium are available here. I think you should find all you need. The complete roster of the original company E is on line, as are all the rosters of the consolidated regiment.
