In the past several months someone on the list was looking for info on Wooldridge. I found this photo in the US Army Military History Institute collection. The web site address is given below. The thing to remember when using this site is to check any and all of the 3 boxes on the search page in order to narrow down the number of finds. John O'Neal RG98S-CWP69.97 Post war image (1885) of Pvt. Isaiah Boon (Boone) Woodridge, Co. I, 6th Regt., Illinois Vol. Cav. He is pictured with his wife, Caroline Pyatt Woodridge. Please help me find the accurate information regarding my great grand father's service record. He died in Fulton County, Illinois, and he is buried there, that much i am certain of. However, one of his niece's applied for his pension, and at that time his name, rank and service file got mixed up with some one else's, and we have not been able to find his accurate record's since. Hope you can help! Here is all i know that is true. BENJAMIN FRANKLIN FREEMAN born May 15, 1846 in North Carolina Enlisted 1864---Discharged 1865---Rank--Private Place of enlistment--Hunters Chapel, Mitchell County, North Carolina Served under--Colonel Mort Wiseman Thank you.
Yes Judy, there could have been more then one John W. Curl. There is a Curl that is related to the Swisher family but I don't think it was my John Curl. The only other info I have is his discharge papers(copy). States that he was born in Ohio and enlisted in 1863 to serve 3 years. He was discharged at Springfield, Illinois in 1865 by reason of Telegram War Dept. I have no idea what this means. I would be more then happy to receive any information you find about John W. Curl. Thank you for your response. Have a nice day :) Janice Janice, . Could there have > been more than one John W. Curl? Janice, I saw your message on the IL-CIVIL-WAR list. I'm not related, but I help Earliene Kaelin with the DeWitt County web site, and I've seen the name Curl many times while reading the Clinton Public newspaper. Could there have been more than one John W. Curl? Who's the widow listed below if his wife's name was Delcina? PENSIONERS IN DEWITT COUNTY -- 1883 DeWitt. Lafferty, Julia, widow Curl, John W. I found this one little blurb in the paper. If I come across others, I'll pass them along. The Clinton Public Sept. 23, 1887 J. W. Curl's son, who has been severely sick for some time, is convalescing rapidly. Judy Simpson
Floyd, If these two are related then we do have connection. The only other thing I know of John W. Curl is he was born in 1844 in Ohio. His parents were Jeremiah and Lucinda Curl. Hope in comes into something we can share. I checked the on-line Andersonville prison records, and could not find a match for Jown W. Curl - although spelling on these records is notoriously bad. First of all, since you copied in the HTML code for your site rather than the URL, I have no idea what to look at. Secondly, are you using the rootsweb site as an advertising strategy? At the age of 22 he came in contact with Selucieus Garfield, a cousin to James A. Garfield, who was campaigning in Kentucky for Buchanan in 1856. Garfield was appointed by Buchanan receiver of the land office at Olympia, Washington Territory and he named young Cunningham his assistant. Mr. Cunningham resided at Olympia for a year and then returned to Washington, D. C., expecting the appointment of superintendent of Indian Affairs for Oregon and Washington, but Congress failed to pass, the necessary legislation. Mr. Cunningham them entered Bethany College, Virginia, remaining there about two years. With four other young students in this institution young Cunningham founded the Delta Tau Delta fraternity which is now one of the leading college fraternities of the country. In 1862 Mr. Cunningham joined the confederate army and was appointed one of the revenue commissioners for Kentucky with the military rank of captain. When Kentucky fell to the federalists, Capt. Cunningham became a member of General Morgan's command, participating in the famous Morgan Raid, was wounded, captured and confined in the military prison at Columbus, Ohio.
