Does anyone know of a Dewitt C. Cowgill from Macon County? In some old family history files I received from a late uncle's estate I found the Civil War Pension and Military files pertaining to him. He enlisted in Co. G, 41st Illinois Infantry (Vol) at Taylorville, IL on 26 Jul 1861 and was given a disability discharge on 10Nov 1862. He married a Nancy D. McCullough. Dewitt died 30 Nov 1887 and Nancy received a widow's pension. She died 26 Sep 1926. Dewitt doesn't appear to be in our family line and I am willing to provide copies (within reason) of his Civil War files to any interested descendants if Dewitt or his family line Clay.

Williams family? I'm researching a Williams (given name unknown) that married either Nancy Mabry or a Malissa Hines. Malissa is dau of Nancy. I have no info on Nancy m. a Williams, but on Malissa's marriage license to William Clow in 1856, she gives her name as Malissa Williams. One of these two ladies married a Williams. First of all, thanks so much to Cheryl for setting up this site. I'm researching the TWARDOS family name. I'm having a particular problem with Albert George TWARDOS. I made a trip to IL last October and found a few more pieces to the puzzle, but there are still a lot of pieces missing. -- Albert was born in Poland on 26 Dec 1879. -- Albert died in Johnston City, Williamson, IL on 7 Jan 1922. -- Albert is buried in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Broadwell Township. -- Albert married Helen Nellie STUPEK in abt 1908. St. Mary's provided this date. The Logan County Clerk checked from 1899 - 1916 and found no record of this marriage. -- Albert and Helen purchased a home in Lincoln, Logan, IL in 1910 and sold it in 1920 (Logan Co. records). When they moved to Phillips, Price, Wisconsin. -- Albert and Helen had four (4) children while living in Lincoln (1909, 1911, 1913 and 1917). The children's birth records (Logan Co. records) indicate that their mother was born in Minonk, Woodford, IL in abt 1888. Can anyone help me find any history on Helen and any record of Albert and Helen's marriage. I have seen Helen listed as either "Helen Nellie" or "Nellie Helen". Also her maiden name as been listed as "Stupik". IL Census records indicate that her parents were born in Austria and spoke Slovak. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Hello Listees: My O'Briant line is shown below. My problem: I know that Cheatham is my ggggrandfather, and I have documented my line through his son Jesse; however, I have no proof that William Jackson is Cheatham's father although LDS say he is. I also do not have much about Jesse's siblings except for Lucy. Cheatham was born in Buckingham Co, VA. I do not know when he moved to IL and/or whether he came with his parents or after he was an adult. According to census records, Cheatham was in St. Clair Co, IL in 1850 &1860 but in Marion Co, IL in 1870 until his death. I don't know where most of his children settled. 1 William Jackson O'Briant 1775 - Unknown . +Mary Anne Puckett Unknown - Unknown ........ 2 Cheatham O'Briant 1799 - 1879 ............ +Ann Wright 1801 - 1839 ................... 3 Nancy Jane O'Briant 1825 - 1879 ....................... +? Hi I am looking for information on a William George who moved to Sangamon Co, Illinois in 1829/30. He was married to a Nancy Hazlett and they had 3 boys that I know of, John, Francis and James William. There was also two daughters, Mary and Jenny. Mary was married to a James Ward. James William George was married to a Rebecca Jane Bowen whose father was Ezekiel "ZaZa" Bowen and they lived in the Loami area. I know where William is buried but have not been able to find the death of his wife or where is buried or if he might have remarried. He is buried at Buckhart and the stone only has his name and the name of a daughter inscribed on it. He was a veteran of the war of 1812. If anyone can be of help would like to hear from you. Sharon
Peg: The copy of the marriage license for James Carson and Matilda Poulston (mygggrandparents), that I received from the county clerk in Vandalia, came with a separate document included that was signed by James's father; it attested the ages of both parties. I'm assuming this is a marriage bond--maybe that's the wrong terminology? Hi Kay, I don't have a whole lot on the KNIGHT's. but this is what I have. Frank KNIGHT b. abt 1878 in Marion Co., IL to James KNIGHT & Ollio MARSHAL. He married Nancy Adella BRIGHT on 20 Apr 1902 at East Fork Twp. Clinton Co., IL. Nancy A. BRIGHT was b. 29 Sep 1882 the dau of John Willard BRIGHT & Emma Jane PRITCHETT. That's about it. I'm not sure where they lived after the marriage. I don't have a death date for Frank or Nancy. Their Marriage record stated that Frank was living in Vernon, IL. (Marion Co.) Dear Central Illinois researchers, I have 2 old pictures----one is of "Elizabeth Gilfillen", taken by Parsons of St. Louis, MO. The second picture is of "Emma Gilfillen, Papa Cousin" and taken by the same studio in St. Louis, MO. I am descended from Richard J. Hill of Fayette County, IL. Two of the Hill daughters married Craigs in Fayette County, and I feel the "Papa" is one of those Craigs---Albert Craig, or Leonard Craig. I would like to correspond with you if you have a Gilfillen family, which includes Elizabeth or Emma Gilfillen. Nola in KS.
Researching: James S. CARSON, in Fayette County from 1830s; signed son James' marriage bond in Vandalia in 1845. James m Matilda POULSTON or POLSTON in 1845. James and Matilda CARSON appear on 1850 census records for Shelby County. Several older CARSON children are also listed, as well as Mary CARSON, b 1846 in Pana, Christian County, so James may have been married before. We have family tradition that James' wife was Mildred OVERTON, but no real evidence. If anyone recognizes any of these people, I'd sure like to hear; will share what I have. Please e-mail me.
