    3. Further information might possibly be obtained from the official Baptist newspaper, "The Illinois Baptist" in Springfield. They did some research for me several years ago on the oldest Baptist minister in both age and years of ordained service in the state. I don't know how far back their archives go. I am curious about where in Montgomery County the Bethel Baptist church was located. There was a Primitive Baptist church just north of Coffeen, that I cannot place a name on. The only Bethel Church I have heard of is just across the Montgomery/Fayette County line on Rte 185. Please contact me if you are a confirmed relative and would like to own this clipping. "DIED" "At 3 o'clock Friday afternoon, July 22, 1898, Mr. E.M. WRIGHT aged 73 (this is crossed thru), of Pleasantview township. Mr. Wright came from Illinois to this county in 1882 (also crossed thru). He was a true man and a good citizen. He leaves two sons and two daughters to mourn his loss, the sons and one daughter in Kansas and one daughter in Illinois, his loving wife having died in Illinois before he moved to Kansas. Mr. Wright was respected by a large circle of acquaintances and had many warm friends, who extend their heartfelf sympathy to the bereaved family. Mrs. Ruth EMMERICK, of Coffey county, Kansas, daughter of the deceased, came in on the 4:00 Frisco train this afternoon to pay her tribute of love to a kind and devoted father." 3. Clinton County has not been transcribed for the statewide marriage index except for 1825-1850. I don't know the reason, could be in progress, could mean a fire destroyed records. In any event, you would look for the record at the county seat, not the town of residence. Have you checked the Clinton County web site for more information? Cheryl Rothwell LoganCty@mindspring.com
