    3. I believe the person who answered you was referring only to the "Federal" U.S. Census data which we have access to on the internet through subscriptions. That was done every ten years. NY "State" Census: New York State took a census every ten years from 1825 to 1875. They also took a census in 1892; then every ten years from 1905 to 1925. IL "State" Census: Illinois - "State censuses were taken in 1820, 1825, 1830, 1835, 1840, 1845, 1855, and 1865. Unfortunately only the 1820, 1855, and 1865 ones have survived reasonably intact. Most of the county returns for 1825, 1830, 1835, and 1845 are missing and nearly half of the 1840 state census has been lost." http://www.library.sos.state.il.us/departments/archives/research_series/rseries5.html There are some state census data on-lne through the volunteer efforts of those who transcribe them for state GenWeb sites. Otherwise, they are usually available through CD's or at a state-level archival library, public library reference dept., etc. Hope this information helps. Every state must be different then, because I have an 1865 Census for Rockland County, NY.... --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail - 50x more storage than other providers!
