I tried to locate Germains to see if Roots are close, but I didn't get far. I can't find any Catherine, Kate, Kitty Root in 1870/1880 that fits. I wonder if she went by another name. But I don't find any likely Roots in 1870/1880 for Dupage or Cook Counties.
