Thanks Mary, but I already have that information. What I want to know are his children's names, ages, birthplaces, and where they were living in 1850. Washington Sargent FLEMING was born in Surry Co NC... I mistakenly took the information from the 1860 census record which showed his birthplace as TN. His name was William L. Webster. I have no idea what county he was in; that is one of the things I am trying to find out. He was a farmer and sawmill operator, so I assume he would not have been in a city or town. My grandfather was enumerated in Kansas in 1860, then moved to Illinois when the Civil War broke out. He then left Illinois for South Dakota approximately 1867. I am trying to locate where he might have been in Illinois. He would not be in the normal decennial federal census records for Illinois. Are there any state census or other records that might help me to locate the county or town in which he may have lived? I have a lot of good information on him before and after Illinois, but almost nothing for Illinois. Thanks for any help. Larry Turner

I too wondered why George couldn't be found in the 1860 Census. Then I thought about all of the Cheshire children that popped up in the 1870 Census. Could he have been in England collecting them during the 1860 Census and then back before the 1861 UK Census so he's not enumerated there either? A bit too early to have enlisted in the Civil War. In 1860 the Ann Whorrall that Nancy found was listed as a domestic with an Elizabeth Whorrall age 1, living in the Franklin household.
