Hello Fred, Yes, it would appear that the older children could be Sarah's. I found who could be James Hartrey in the 1880. If it is him, his parentage is father ENG mother OH, which could make Thomas his father and Sarah Jane his mother. That would make them married ca. 1858. If it was possible to find Ellen, Mary B. or Flora in the 1880 is would give their parentage and determine where their father was born. look up Charles Webb Becken
Nancy; would there happen to be either a Marion Short (female, b. 1890 IL) or a Raymond Short (b. 1895 in IL) anywhere? All of these people including Mary & Leo were known to be alive in 1910. Carol Our life may not always be the party we would have chosen, but while we are here, we may as well dance!
Nancy; this Everett appears to be mine. If so, he would be an older brother for the "lost" Leo. The following counties in IL are counties where "my" Short family was known to have resided: Franklin, Perry, Jefferson, Williamson, Jackson, Pulask, & Greene. (They really up and moved around a lot!). Thanks for your help. Carol Our life may not always be the party we would have chosen, but while we are here, we may as well dance!
Nancy; thanks for looking. This mystery keeps getting deeper and deeper. Carol Our life may not always be the party we would have chosen, but while we are here, we may as well dance!
Carol, I can't seem to locate a match for Leo and his mother Mary. About the only child I find from 1900 is possibly Everett with wife Daisie in Greene Co IL, but there seems to be other SHORT families in Greene Co that could be another line. Source Citation: Year: 1910; lines 2-3, 44/44, taken Apr.21st, Census Place: Woodville, Greene, Illinois; Roll: T624_289; Page: 3A; Enumeration District: 45; Image: 1053. Carol, this is the only Leo* SHORT b IL c1903 in the entire 1910 census, but his mother's name is Lizzie married to James. Name: Leonard Short Age in 1910: 6 Estimated birth year: abt 1904 Birthplace: Illinois Relation to Head of House: Son Father's name: James Father's Birth Place: Illinois Mother's name: Lizzie Mother's Birth Place: Illinois Home in 1910: North Fork, Gallatin, Illinois Marital Status: Single Race: White Gender: Male Neighbors: View others on page Household Members: Name Age James Short 37 Lizzie Short 26 Leonard Short 6 Anna Short 4 Robt Simpson 18 Charley Simpson 14 Maybe Mary remarried? and Leo is listed under her name? Does Leo have another name? Or Anna M. is Mary. Her age is only off by a few years. I looked for SHORT in Williamson Co but there were none listed. Hmmmmm; this raises all sorts of possbilities like "did he leave his wife #1?, etc.". Some of the data in this fits but some does not. Could you please look for a Mary M Short born abt. 1865 in IL with a son named Leo b. 1903 in IL in the 1910 Census. IF I can find her & Leo, I can possibly piece together what happened. Thank you.
