Thanks, Karen I wonder if this George is really a Lester. He is listed as being born in Schleswig, whereas none of the other 29 Lesters in Douglas Co. are born there. There are 183 people in Douglas Co., 1870, who list their birthplace as Schleswig, but no other Lesters. It seems to be a community of immigrants from that area, but unless George was adopted, I think the census taker either listed his surname as the family whose farm he was working on, or listed the wrong birthplace for him.
