    1. Re: [IGW] what?
    2. I agree with Sheila. The reason we are here is for the counties not the coordinators. While yes they are the backbone - it's not a mandatory necessity. barbL Sheila wrote: > The counties were always there just not the names. Until very recently just looking at that list a potential volunteer couldn't tell if their help was needed or not... not a very efficient way to encourage volunteers. Also its very helpful for us county hosts and researchers to know each others names/email connections and county associations without the additional hassle of going to each site to look for it . As you said the county list is important, probably the most important to our researchers ... if it wasnt for our leadership team, that list of counties may not have been on the homepage at all! maryt co kerry irelandgenweb

    3. Sheila and Jack, et al. Open servers problem blocking messages to closed servers. Open servers can access your hard drive. Closed servers cannot. This is a higher standard of security to help stop unsolicited email and surfers from accessing your files. You will receive an email shortly on this list from a security detective who will explain what is happening to you this week, and how you can correct it. This is by list because everyone on an open server protocal could (will) be affected. That probably means more of us. 3. Nate and fellow IrelandGenWeb hosts: I wish to withdraw my name from the upcoming election for the IGW leadership. Furthermore, I support Don Kelly in his ideals and committment to the IrelandGenWeb project. He has displayed far more self-control and leadership qualities than I feel I would have to offer the project. - --------------------------- I apologize to all for this delay in submitting my withdrawal - my computer system had been down for over a week and my internet connection is still 'iffy' at best for some reason. I'm keeping this message short in hopes that I will manage to finally get it posted. Thank you! Mary Kelly Co. Tipperary

    3. ----- Original Message ----- From: Donkelly To: irishsun@ptdprolog.net Sent: Friday, January 21, 2000 1:29 PM Subject: Re: [IGW] Communication Question Nate Zipfel asked: Question #2: How would you work to improve communication with the county hosts? Thank you Nate for this clear, concise and relevant question. 1. Maintain a mailing list for CC's and separate mailing lists for committees. We are all adults. I favor freedom of speech, not control of speech. Actions by committees or the NC and other relevant issues shall be regularly reported to the hosts. No assumptions ever that everyone already knows. 2. Have an experienced host volunteer to greet as "Welcome Host" all new county hosts as soon as their names are posted. 3. Have experienced host volunteers to pair off with new hosts to help them get boards and pages up and running, direct them to new resources, etc., and remain available to help through emergencies. 4. On the main Ireland page include the following directory information: Names of all counties with names of hosts of counties and boards, clearly showing counties available for adoption; References to main Genuki, Gen Connect pages etc., where new hosts can find Reference information; Same for listing all genealogical and related societies in Ireland. URL's of all Ireland related genealogical or historical based mailing lists where visitors can join. 5. All areas of traditional means of communication need improvement. We will work on that together. Thank you all. I hereby ask for YOUR votes.
