Sue and Colleen, Welcome to the group. I am Vicki, County Wicklow. I am looking forward to getting to know you.
Hello fellow team mates for the IrelandGenWeb project. Please welcome Sue Siebert ( pituso@mesh.net ) as new County Coordinator for County Fermanagh. Sue helped me a lot during the earliest days of USGENWEB. Please also welcome Colleen Gilligan ( colleeng@bigfoot.com ) as a new resource for Ireland. Colleen has a massive website at http://www.svpal.org/~colleeng/connacht/main.html with lots of online information and exterior links. Colleen designs webpages and is professional host to musicians and exercise websites. I am trying to get Colleen to agree to host one of our orphan pages. Please visit her Connaught website and encourage her to join our Ireland project. Thanks all, and Cheers Don Kelly
County Leitrim has a new facelift and added features; Maps and towns of Leitrim; and short histories of the Celts, Vikings and Anglo-Scot border people, some of which were later caught up in the Ulster and Connaught Plantations. Also placed on the Anglo-Scot page is a translation of the Great Curse which was pronounced by the Archbishop of Glasgow upon the border reivers. There is also a list of the surnames of the border families. Enjoy Cheers Don
Hmm well since I didn't know I was a committee I guess that committee is me. To answer questions - well you already know we have a new CC and I am working with others to ensure their smooth transition into IGW. Don is currently shifting them over in peicemeal. Barbara is the chair of the committee. I have repeatedly stated that committee leaders pick their own team and make their own announcements. All I do is advise if asked. ANNOUNCEMENT: Christina Hunt has her new Longford page up at http://www.rootsweb.com/~irllog Very nice start Christina. I want also publicly thank Barbara for helping the new coordinators get started. Thanks Barb Don
Don, I think that the County Cork page is a fine example of what you may be describing. Tom Cleary is updating -- adding links, etc. I get suggestions from the List -- forward them to him, and he makes changes if appropriate to the page. I maintain the Query and Surname Boards: When I receive requests for info on the CountyCork - L, I write to these folks and encourage them to add their requests to Cork's Query and Surname pages. I have received some grateful thankyous and several compliments on the page. I think our co-hosting has given us each a focus in the maintenance of Cork website. ////////////////////// TEST AND SUGGESTIONS FOR COUNTY PAGE CONTENT \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ I have received several emails from non project visitors about what they like about the county pages within the IrelandGenWeb project. The test part is to see if the seven new county coordinators have been successfully subscribed to this list, Christina Hunt for Longford, Dick McCoach for Dublin, Kevin Murphy for Wexford, Greg Kutch for Meath, Mark McCabe for Monaghan, Liz Haren for Clare and Anastasy Tynan for Laois. The suggestion part is of course up to the individual county coordinators, but visitors indicate they like to see a one paragraph geographical description of the county and a short history of the county. I personally like to read such information. These suggested amenities are open for discussion, so let's hear the pros and cons of these ideas. Don
