    2. Betsy, I thought there might be a problem because I wasn't having this problem and then all of the sudden I was, now today, Tuesday, I have none again. I think there was/is a problem that needs to be checked on. Vicki

    1. Re: [Fwd: Re: [IGW-cc] Help needed]
    2. Dick and all, I believe the problem is that several of the newer coordinators were unaware that the county query board was registered with their email address. This is pretty standard protocol whenever a new host takes on an existing county site within the WorldGenWeb. Since many of these new hosts adopted "unhosted" county pages that were being cared for by Nathan their emails were added to the boards once they got their webpages up and running. They are now the admin for these boards and are receiving the admin notices daily as well as any bounce notices the board generates. I think it would be wise for all new county hosts to check out the county query board and see if their email address is listed as admin for the board (scroll to the very bottom of the page). There are, in some cases, a few boards being maintained by folks not associated with the IrelandGenWeb Project. However, most of the county boards are being admin'd by project coordinators. Secondly, I would encourage any host who has a query board but doesn't know how to admin it properly to visit the GenConnect website at http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/AdminCenter and read the how-to instructions. There is a mail list for help and tips as well as a FAQ board for questions. Lastly, you can now request any password for any RootsWeb hosted site or service through an automated password mailer program. Visit http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com and put your email in the box and then check which passwords you would like emailed to you. Sincerely, Carol Hepburn Derry, Northern IrelandGenWeb

    3. Betsy--this is not something that "needs to be looked into and the root cause found".. ii is a normal function of a bad addy from the particular county or other query board of which you are the administrator for. it is a problem that you as the administrator for the board are responsible to resolve yourself. the problem is , too many of us don't really understand what these messages really represent and don't know how to resolve the problem. it is a little complicated to resolve, but if you don't, it will come back to haunt you. i had offered earlier on the list to Vicki to help her resolve hers, but she did not respond. i didn't want to get involved explaining it on the list, but maybe thats the way it will have to be. if you want me to help you solve your problem, let me know. Send in the last full, expanded header message you got from whatever Genconnect board you got one of these messages from and then we'll go from there and try to explain how to correct the problem--it gets a little complicated to do, but it must be done by you, the board administrator. thanks Dick McCoach -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Re: [IGW-cc] Help needed Resent-Date: Mon, 10 Apr 2000 15:06:18 -0700 (PDT) Resent-From: IGW-L@rootsweb.com Date: Mon, 10 Apr 2000 18:07:29 -0400 From: "betsy" <betsy@megalink.net> Reply-To: IGW-L@rootsweb.com To: IGW-L@rootsweb.com Hi Vicki -- I am getting them too; have been corresponding with Don Kelley about it. 3. When I took over the County Longford board abt 1 1/2 yrs ago it had been an inactive board for some time. I had to clean out all kinds bad addresses. After I did that no more trouble. Also everytime an answer to a particular person bounces you need to re-edit the original msg so it doesn't have the offending email anymore. This is just normal board maintenance and one you get it cleaned up they are really no trouble in this way anymore. I highly recommend anyone not used to Genconnect, sub to the GenConnect list: GenConnect-D-request@rootsweb.com Here is the Admin Center URL http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/AdminCenter/ As was already state you will have to know your password. Go to Password Central to get it: http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ I am new on Ireland GenWeb and I have been feeling from my own experience getting started, that a text file with startup info for newcomers to the project would be extremely sensible. I had a hard time finding all the various rules for the wepage and still found some things popped up that were not online. Items like what _really_ should be on the webpage and what shouldn't in terms of Logos etc. How to request a webpage on Rootsweb plus urls. I also think newbies should be automatically subbed to this list and told they are on it. How to get their GenConnect boards under control. Plus some useful urls like the above could be appended. It would save a lot of time in the long run. Just my 2 cents worth. Can someone It may be worth your while to sub to the GenConnect-D Digest. The is a lot that goes on with the boards and its good to see how other people handle it. The directions are below. If you get the bounces I'm pretty sure you must be administrator. You should have a password that lets you edit the boards. I think Pam Carey Durstock <durp@one.net> handles that part of it. Jack To Subscribe to GenConnect-D, send a message to GenConnect-D-request@rootsweb.com that contains in the body of the message the command subscribe and no other text. No subject line is necessary, but if your software requires one, just use subscribe in the subject, too.

    3. Hi Vicki. Carol Hepburn know more than I do about GenConnect query pages. You might contact her and include all of the headers you did here. What I think is happening may be that the page configuration is incorrect. The Wicklow County Coordinator should have the Wicklow County GenConnect page.
