    3. Don, Please give us some url's of pages as it is not made clear what "pages" you are talking about. Unless they have our passwords, no one can -put- pages on our County pages.... so you're saying someone created new GenConnect boards without the individual hosts persmission? Giving us some url's to reference might make this situation clearer. <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> Maura Petzolt mpetzolt2@webtv.net <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> SHAMROCK ROOTS homepage http://community.webtv.net/shamrockroots/SHAMROCKROOTS Helpful Hints for Successful Searching http://www.rootsweb.com/~irlwat/instruct.htm

    1. [IGW-CC's] Cluster pages
    2. Donkelly
    3. ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE NC Most of you have probably heard the news about new GC cluster pages being added to all of the IrelandGenWeb county sites. I learned about it today so I was not consulted about this in advance. My personal feelings about this unannounced event shall remain personal, but I think I should clarify the rights and expectations of our CCs relevant to their county and their county pages. Counties must have a query page, but what type of query page is up to the coordinator. CCs have the right to be consulted before other pages are put on their site by another CC of a different county. The first right of approval or refusal is implicit. The CCs have the right to host cluster pages for their counties, or to approve someone else to host those cluster pages. While I would like to see cluster pages for every county, it is up to each county host. So it seems there is nothing wrong with those pages except that the involved counties did not receive the courtesy of being asked if they wanted the pages on their county. I consider it a common courtesy that each county host be contacted in advance about any pages placed on their county by an organization with which we are associated, that they have the right first refusal to host or refuse to accept the pages. To refuse, under GenConnect rules, will not altogether prevent the pages from going up. We seem to have no legal defense against such pages being fostered upon us without our permission. For those who are unfamiliar with cluster pages, please visit my County Leitrim site. Those page I personally authorized and personally maintain. I will not view favorable a duplicate set of boards attached to my Leitrim site. Those of you who have a complaint about this, please take it up with Nancy Trice at GenConnect and as an alternate, make your feelings known to the CC who took this unilateral and unapproved action. Be assured that IGW has no power to stop this. Don Kelly with the NC hat on.

    3. Thank you for the following message Anna At this point, I see no reason to panic. I am sure that more details will evolve in the next few days. Don Kelly, NC, The IrelandGenWeb Project o0o Dear listers, Rootsweb and Ancestry have merged; you can read about the particulars at these links: http://www.ancestry.com/home/celebrate/rootsrelease.htm and http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/merge.html If you have further questions about what this means, please keep them OFF THE LIST; instead, go to the help desk and ask: http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/help.cgi As your list admin, I am adopting a "wait and see" attitude about how this may affect our lists; I tend to believe the assurances given in the above releases, and don't see a need to panic until they are proven to be false. If you want to borrow this announcement for your lists, please feel free. Anna Hanson

    2. Donkelly
    3. ANNOUNCEMENT: Following a recent tour of the Ireland Project county webpages, it came to my attention that some counties are displaying the BritishGenWeb logo instead of the IrelandGenWeb logo as required by our bylaws. While display of WGW, BIGW or even USGW logos are optional, the IGW logo is not. Please check your pages carefully for compliance and install the appropriate logos asap. We need to make the appropriate impression upon our guests by proudly identifying who we are and who we represent, the IrelandGenWeb. The county pages will be visited again in two weeks and offending sites will receive a private email notice after that time. Your cooperation is appreciated. Hi folks, For those of you with links to Genuki, please verify that your link is pointing to the correct address: http://www.genuki.org.uk Apparently, there is a new for-profit genealogy company in Cumbria, England called Genuki, LTD. and they have registered the domain names: http://www.genuki.com and http://www.genuki.co.uk The commercial company is soliticing business under the guise of being affilated with Genuki (non-profit). They asked Cindy Howell's to add their link to her site - she has refused. Feel free to post this to any other list you feel would like to know about this development. 3. Hello to all. It's been so quiet on this list,..... well, at least until now. I started on the County Cork GenWeb page several weeks back a database project to collect loose records that users have accumulated through their genealogy work that pertain to Cork County. Actually, it was a spin-off of idea Richard Callaghan had on the Tipperary rootsweb list. They use a database server provided by a company called flashbase. I liked the idea an broadened it a bit. I wanted to keep the records on the site. However, since the rootsweb server doesn't support front page's "post" method; I put up a data acquisition and display site at www.cmcrp.net/Cork . Please feel free to go there and check it out. I decided this weekend to expand it to the counties of Mayo, Limerick, Tipperary, and Waterford. Thus, my question to any of those IGW webmasters. If you would like to link to your county's database page from your website, I would put a link back to it on the entrance page. This would make a relatively smooth transition back and forth should you find the idea would benefit you. The pages are actually done for these sites. They are identical in every way to the Cork page, just that everytime the work "Cork" appears, the other county name replaces it. If you would like to do this, please contact me by the end of this week so I can make the modifications.
