She was born February 27, 1902 in Malad, Idaho, the daughter of James Howard Ripley and Mary Vanderwood. Ida was an only child whose father died when she was five. Her mother married Professor Samuel Powell. Ida graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1919 and went on to receive her Lifetime Teaching Certificate from the University of Idaho. Ida was an accomplished teacher who loved to teach. She taught school in Malad where she met Theodore Forsberg. They were married in 1924. They were later divorced. Ida was left to provide for her children during the post Depression and war years. She left Malad to work as a secretary for a year in Logan, Utah. She then found employment at Hill Air Force Base in Ogden as a clerk typist. This was a time of challenge and hardship for Ida trying to find places to live and keep her family together. Nonetheless, she had a distinguished career at Hill Air Force Base, retiring as an Administrative Assistant in 1964. Ida married Frank Hall in 1946. They had a contented life together, traveling and spending many hours with grandchildren, playing games with them and taking them places. Frank died in 1977. Ida loved flowers and she surrounded her little home with the beauties of nature. She enjoyed needlework, watching football, putting puzzles together with Heather, her granddaughter, and the company of her beloved cat, Patches. Ida lived through a challenging life with solid integrity and devotion to her family. She was in every sense a "lady" who taught the value of self-respect and perseverance. Ida had strong Christian beliefs and was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Ida overcame many health challenges to remain active and independent in her beautiful little home until she was 96. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Lou (Edward) Howden, Tigard, Oregon, and two sons, Ted Forsberg, Lake Havasu, Arizon; and Roger (Francie) Forsberg, Pleasant View, Utah; nine grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. The family would like to express gratitude to the caregivers at Potomac Health Care, her neighbor Connie, and the many friends and relatives who visited and supported her during her final years. Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 16th at 10:00 a.m. at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., in Ogden.
